as someone that played WoW from 2004-2012 and XIV from 2010-present, XIV's gameplay isn't as tight as WoW but XIV blows WoW out of the water when it comes to visuals and music. gameplay balance is also much better than WoW has ever been at any point in time which is a good thing overall but can make the game feel stagnant sometimes. XIV's main downfall is that if you aren't into story driven gameplay it can be a drag, almost everything in XIV is unlocked via its main story because it's an FF game first and an MMO second, but if you are into that sort of thing then it just complements the overall experience even more. personally i'd recommend XIV just because it's still a relatively young MMO if you don't factor in its abysmal 2010 launch, the quality of content has only gotten better since the relaunch in 2013, whereas WoW peaked sometime around 2009 and has been downhill ever since from what i experienced

There's nothing about my years spend playing FFXIV that would make me recommend it over WoW. I dumped 3k hours into HW alone, completing all the silly side shit. I didn't complete it because it was super engaging an interesting, but because there was literally nothing else to do after the first few hours of a content update.

The real bane of this game is the fucking bizarre and contradicting designs of it all.

You play a job (hence the name) when you're playing a Scholar, a warrior, etc. Which is why there's no customization of it. The way you differentiate yourself is to actually play it well compared to most that don't.

Hitting a dummy shows that the DPS increase is unnoticeable. ~14 stat weight is completely irrelevant to DPS when tank are hitting over 6000 total.
That +17 crit doesn't mean you're going to have a noticeable crit rate increase. The crit formula is:

Slaying ring: ((1126-354)/(858*5))+0.05 = 22.995% crit

The min/max hits in my image show that +40 det does almost nothing because of the -8 VIT. Do you really think that going into A12S is somehow going to change only getting +1 to min hit for autoattacks? It'll be the same for other skills, an increase of well under 100 when skills are doing thousands of damage.

There's literally no reason to use Slaying accessories over Fending Accessories since the VIT change.

In fact, you get to socket STR materia into the Fending accessories, effectively pulling a larger attack power boost out of them than using the Slaying accessories.

The only metric that determines which accessories you should be using on a tank is whether or not it's been infected with parry rating.

spell focus is the first buff that would make blm like other classes like you said, in that it will (probably) line up with the other new skill and that's how you'll use it

the big dark explosion is probably dark/ultima, and i figure it will have very high potency but a cooldown, so you'd use it with spell focus for big dick damage, sort of like summoner's deathflare

i would enjoy that playstyle because all blm is right now is movement optimization and putting down ley lines when it's up, it'd spice things up for when you don't have ley lines and don't have your opener ready

No it isn't. There's very little content to do at the endgame; and the itemization is too shallow to feel involved in gear choices. Each time a new extreme comes out, it becomes farm mode within the day. The new savage content becomes farm mode within the week.

It's fun for awhile, but the combat in the game is too shallow. Which is ironic considering how many hotkeys are required for each class.

That's not to say that WoW is doing anything much better these days. They streamlined the skill trees to save the players from thinking, then they streamlined rotations into just a few buttons.

Playing WoW from vanilla to WotLK, and then playing FFXIV has be convinced that the MMO genre has run its course. Companies keep trying to simplify and streamline it for mass appeal, but it also contradicts the point of the genre.

You need to pre-form full parties and then have the leader of one party target the leader of another and select "invite to alliance", but the alliance will break if either leader leaves the zone and possibly if anyone leaves either party.
