No. Drakengard games always had problems in the gameplay department. Going from inferior Musou games to a generic action game in the third entry didn't help much, but Drakengard 3 is by far the most playable one.

But the combat isn't as bad as people told me. It's boring, but it's far from unplayable garbage. My biggest complain about the game is actually music that repeats itself every 20-30 seconds and last the entire chapter.

The music is suppose to get you into the manic mind set of the characters and the nature of the events surrounding them. The boring gameplay, if you can believe it, was intentional. Mass murdering is boring and you would have to be crazy to like it (the whole message of the game). Also, as far as the story goes a lot of the crazy stuff it is known for was cut due to localization.

Overall I would have to say it was a bad game but a very unique experience.

It's not even the story that most fans like Drakengard for, for me it was the sheer novelty and total disregard for conventional video game design that pulled me in.
It's just that different from everything else.
