>>
Prey is kind of a shitty game.
>>
Can western devs please stop making ugly women and leaving the men handsome?
>>
The begining of the game had him presented as slightly less than decent person with a moral tendencies but with an overall integrity towards helping humanity. As the story progress Im having trouble finding a redeeming quality. His entire being is that of a piece of shit. I cant even trust the videos of his past self since each one say something completely opposite.
>>
>>376393673
Both are ugly though.
>>
>>376393732
What are you talking about. Dude is smokin hot and girls is 5/10
>>
how so? which morgan are you talking about? the morgan that you see in the video january wants you to see, or the morgan you see in the video alex wants you to see? they're two different people with two different driving ideologies. the morgan you see in the beginning believes the science on the station has gone too far and needs to be destroyed before it hurts anyone else. the morgan alex was convinced by said damn the possible consequences of further experimentation with typhon genetic material- we need to create technology that will give us their powers and share that power with others.

ultimately, the morgan we're introduced to at the beginning of the game seems to be the one who was in the right, assuming (ending spoilers) earth is only overtaken by typhon in the present day because typhon genetics were shared with earth
>>

>>

between January, December, the audio logs, video logs, email accounts, and talks with the crew there's like 5 or 6 Morgans. I just played the audio log of [the experiment on Makhalia's father[/spoiler] so genocide of everyone on board seems like the most moral option at this point.

>>
>>376396292
I didn't even hate the game, although I thought it had pacing issues. There's almost too much sidequest content for the size of the station, you do a lot of backtracking between areas for recycling already and it starts to feel redundant and a little boring considering how powerful you end up becoming.

I don't know if it's any different if you go without any PSI powers, but that seemed a little boring, I guess? Maybe if they add a permadeath mode I'll try human powers only.

>Prey
>Realism
Prey is a very stylized and fairly colorful game just like Dishonored man, I dunno what you're smoking.

Problems I have with Prey:
>Enemies are kind of retarded
>Mimics are good enemies, designs of the rest are kind of boring and Mimics become completely redundant and pointless as soon as you get the psychoscope anyway (whose idea was it to kill the main source of tension and horror in the game less than halfway in?)
>Some of the ideas like the creative uses for the nerf gun, the gloo gun, and mimic matter are neat, but a lot of the other weapons and psychic powers are pretty bread and butter abilities.
>Legitimately too many sidequests, if you're OCD about that kind of thing you'll be backtracking every five seconds
>No real breakout interesting characters. I guess that might play into the twist, but I liked the idea of Dahl (who was on-screen for five seconds) and Sho, the rest were kind of forgettable and I didn't REALLY care about them.
>Everything is Going to Be Ok is an AMAZING theme and probably my favorite part of the game, they didn't really utilize Mick Gordon enough.
>Throws the "it's all a simulation" twist at you and doesn't give you enough closure afterwards to make it a really GOOD twist

>>376397525

>>
>>376397695
Are they?

I'm usually the kind of guy to sing the praises of games /v/ hates, but Prey fell a little short for me. I really would like to see more games taking after System Shock, but I felt there wasn't enough about Prey that felt truly extraordinary.

>Mimics are cool
>The looking glass stuff is cool

Weirdly enough contrasting with this guy here >>376397873
I feel like Prey isn't linear enough. You spend a lot of time wandering around doing scavenging sidequests and not interacting with characters and interesting situations directly. It's just "We have to stop the Typhon, go here to continue that quest" without much shaking that up for the entire game save for one or two moments I actually did like, for the most part.

It could be argued this plays into the twist but I don't know if that's an excuse
>>
>>376395452
Nah, it's the objective truth. The male is good looking and the female has the downs.
>>
>>376398016
I didn't mean open world as oppose to linear.
It was more the fact that the game isn't construct like the open-world you find on the market.
It's closer in the construction to a game like castlevania/metroid than Horizon New Dawn, Far Cry, ...
>>
>>376397695

The game made me quickly not trust anyone or anything
>Its obvious at the start that alex is a fat manipulative cunt who lies to you constantly

>December was sketchy as fuck so could not be trusted
>January was way too eager for you to do what it wanted and It fucking killed December before you could find out more shit about it and had the worst fucking excuse for doing so, and it could not be trusted
>late in the game that fucking chef further cements that no one can be trusted, especially Fat asses
>dahl comes along and says he is there to rescue everyone, then proceeds to try to kill everyone
>even the fucking player character cant be trusted because of what appears to be a severe personality disorder
>>
>>376397385
Unfortunately that seems to be the case. I don't even know why Mankind Divided flopped, got that shit on release and loved it, straight up better than Human Revolution, and yet people ree'd up a storm. The one slight bright side is DXMD bridged HR and DX pretty well. By the end of DXMD you already by and large know how it would play out, and why there's no mention of Adam in DX and why Bob's still around.

Shouldn't be surprising since Deus Ex, Thief, and System Shock weren't huge hits either but it still stings we're probably headed into another drought.
>>
>>376394562

>>376398597
Mankind Divided ran terribly and had a shitty ending, is what I heard.

Prey has a bad ending. Runs fine, I guess.
>>
So, I'm still playing, but can you push the fat man? Alex really gets on my nerves sometimes.
>>
>>376398787
Prey runs great because it looks like a 2008 game.
>>
>>376398946
The only part of it where I was really like "man, this is hideous" was the flyboy of the city in the beginning and that has its reasons, I guess

>>376398860
I think there's even an achievement with that name
>>
>>376398787
I heard that too, and it ran fine and the ending makes sense in the context of what's going on in the series and if you paid attention to what happened in the game. Then again maybe a 970 is more powerful than what everyone else is running. Maybe I've got more computer than I thought I did.

I mean, at least you get more varied scenarios, more weapon and power variety, just generally more direction.

I've finished Bioshock on survivor and this on Nightmare and I just felt like Bioshock had a bit more meat.
>>
>>376399223
All of the big floating orb can't do a goddamn thing if you use a nullwave grenade or psychoshock. They have literally no means of attack beyond their powers. This is kind of why the game becomes so much easier if you play with no restrictions on alien powers, because one of them is a free disable on half of the enemies in the game and one is an AOE nuke.

Very early in the game. Died about six times to two Phantoms in the IT area. I'm on hard.

I don't know if I'm retarded or I just lack the stuff to take care of them properly. There were explosive canisters in there but I have nothing but a wrench, gloo gun, and stun gun.

I'm using my healing food all over the place.

I'm enjoying myself.
>>
>>376399223
At a certain point I rushed past enemies when Dahl unleased all his robots and all the Typhons went in war against them.

Spent my neuromods on Slowmo and Mobility 2 for certain situations.

Although there's still many ways to sneak past.
>>
>>376399436
What kind of phantoms were they?

If they're regular phantoms the wrench, gloo gun, and thrown objects should be enough

if they have any kind of glow don't even bother at the beginning

Probably regular phantoms. I beat them with the gloo gun and wrenching them. Problem was I'd gloo one, beat it a few times, and it would whip me or throw shit at me when I was getting away to put the gloo back on.
>>
>>376399560
My recommendation is Nightmare, human powers only

I played on Nightmare and the game really became fairly effortless once I unlocked some decent psychic abilities. Didn't have to think hard about recycling and approaching fights anymore, you have several get out of jail free powers and a few damage nukes.
>>
>>376399567
Prey takes more cues from Bioshock than SS.

Bioshock is a delight. It might be nostalgia on my end because honestly we're at the point where I can say it was one of my earlier horror-shooters without being banned for underage - but it has genuinely good moments, characters, and world design.

>>376399906
If the DLC is good, I might try it. I didn't hate Prey, I just ended up feeling underwhelmed.

Arkane's track record with DLC has been pretty good.
>>
>>376398597
MD flopped due to that horrid pre-order campaign that they withdrew, poor optimization, the microtransaction fiasco and generally just people complaining about it feeling incomplete (which it wasn't, the story is just weak)
>>
>>376399496
This. That slow-mo ability coupled with all the wrench stuff makes a lot of the game pretty easy. The Dahl robots were pretty big damage sponges though, so I usually just slow-mo'd past them.

Ah yes, Dr Calvino. I did check the room but seems not good enough.

Man, normal is so fucking easy, I almost feel insulted. If only I knew... And where the hell is weapon degradation? It's implied, because you can pick up multiple of the same weapon, you can craft them, but I see no reason to do so. I think one of the trailers demonstrated weapon degradation, but it can be my memory playing tricks on me. Or maybe it's punishment for being a normal pleb?
Other than that (and too many black womyn, it's supposed to be sci-fi not a tumblr fantasy), I'm surprised how much I'm enjoying this.

Another thing, arsenal is really small:
wrench, peestol, shotty, gloogun, stungun, q-beam and various grenades and all this I got before getting into deep storage. That's it? I was hoping for gauss rifle or railgun. And lack of alternative ammo for conventional weapons is also pretty damn lame.

Thats kind of the thing; Bioshock (compared to System Shock 1 and 2) was relatively light on RPG elements and, one could argue, story. The only reason I could see wasting money on this game is for the setting, which doesnt even look all that interesting. Of course, I could just be jaded as fuck.
>>
>>376402024
its systemshock/bioshock/'immersive-sim' de jour.

If you love that genre, you'll at the very least enjoy it. I find it very compelling. The station is really cool, like a layer cake. Traversing it is especially cool with the space walking.

Combat, which is par for the course with the genre, is clunky but has lots of unique elements with powers and weapons combining well.

Haven't finished yet but the story, the 'mystery', is very compelling. Some fantastic reality bending moments. It is typical shock though, empty 'singular' facility/station. Lots of audio logs and emails to read. Mysterious people talking to you over radio communication. So be ready for that.
>>

Setting and story are arguably the best bits of prey. Kind of spoilery though to explain it but it has a strong mystery element.

I think the opening is gripping as fuck
the glass break part, specifically

so maybe if you are undecided, watch like the first 20-ish minutes
>>
>>376402520
The ending is bad, dude. It's unspoilered in this very thread so I might leave if you don't want it, but if you cared about the game for the narrative it might fuck the entire thing for you.
>>
>>376402684
are we talking mass effect 3 fuck up a game/whole series level of let down?
>>
I got 27 hours of out of it on my first playthrough and i enjoyed it. Vid logs and a few moments kinda spoil the ending by the half way mark but it was still a fun game. Ended up melting everything with a fully upgraded Q-beam at the later part of the game but i onlly played on normal. The sound on the outside of the station was the best.
>>
>>376402924
Just about, honestly. Not as intellectually insulting, it just doesn't do anything good for the in-game characters and lore.
>>
>brighter, slower, lightly rpg-er doom 3
this is what it felt like for me through the demo, how different is the final product?
>>
>>376403430
>doom 3
But Prey is actually a good game.

>>376403430
i mean the obvious inspiration is bioshock but hey bioshock is kind of a brighter, slower, lightly rpg-er doom 3 too.

>doom 3 is bad because it's not like doom 1 and it's expansion: doom 2

i hope that's not what you meant with "doom 3 is not a good game" (which is also wrong)
>>
>>376403831
no, doom 3 is bad on it's own merit, it had terrible pacing and a bunch of problems that they tried and somewhat aleviated with the expansions, but the main game is a horrible piece of trash. (And yes, i've replayed it recently)

Okay where the fuck is the keycard for the IT Supply Closet? I've been looking all over and can't find it.

y

>>376405925
according to reddit, there's no keycard. Those people teleport out of the closet to life support if you do that dahl quest

You feel like you've heard it before because it's synthwave. Synthwave is obnxious, bland samey bullshit.

It's terrible.

And why the fuck does this game have so many scare chords? They're about as scary as a little kid screaming in your ear. Startling. But mostly fucking annoying.

I'm about 1.5 hours in and leaning towards refund. It's not gripping me on any level. It's trying so hard to be cool that I feel like I have to give it a participation badge though

>Female Morgan is some type of alien looking abomination.

Western devs need to fuck of with this shit or kill themselves desu.

DX MD and Prey had really, REALLY bad marketing
These days you need to bombard with ads and viral stuff and whatever to make decent numbers
I don't remember how Dishonored 2 marketing campaign was, but it's probably the same
>>
>>376393549
You and them must get along great then.

So what the fuck is Morgan? Is it an alien? Is that why it's life was a simulation and the "tests" were all basic, sapien checking shit?
>>
>>376407819
You mean the intro tests where they make you hide behind the chair and lift the boxes ?
Scientist expected you to use typhon powers for this and were acting so surprised because you didnt.
>>
>>376408060
I was under the impression you werent human though, and those reactions I thought were because Morgan was demonstraiting sapient intelligence. And when finding out you were being watched like a lab experiment certainly made me believe he wasn't human.

tfw none of these games even achieve anywhere near No Mans Sky have done makes you truely wonder about gamings future
>>
>>376408890
Huh, weird.
>>
>>376408370
Yeah it's not super clear right away but reading emails and stuff clears it up. That whole scenario was made so Morgan could test out the alien neuromods but as part of the escape plan January swapped them out with blank ones so Morgan would actually remember the previous day and break the loop.
>>
>>376408890
This has driven me insane, what a bunch of rascals.
>>
>>376402924

It wasn't quite that bad, just REALLY fucking abrupt. Like it cuts so abruptly that I thought a character's sentence was actually being interrupted.

Now we have proofs that every naysayer for Prey has only played Bioshock and never played System Shock.
