Was it THAT bad?
>>
>>376377554
Pretty good so far. I'm 14 hours in, and it's like a less linear Bioshock. I never played System Shock/2.
>>
Bad? No. Mediocre yes. It's "Bioshock in Space" (which is different from System Shock) for all intents and purposes.
>>
>>376377554
No, it's actually good etc etc.

But I think I've figured out the potential secret of the game. Someone needs to try and kill every single operator you find. All of them. They're the ones behind the simulation.
>>
i'm loving it so far

but i really enjoyed system shock 2 and bioshock so there you go
>>
Hell no, it's great.

Loved the gameplay and the free exploration. Wish the ending was a tad better though.

It completely BTFO'd the prey 2 babies so it's fantastic in that aspect alone
>>
>>376377554
It's 20 minutes of my life that I'll never get back.
>>
It's alright, though from the demo it feels like there's some polishing that could be done. Enemies sometimes can't see you even when you're about 30 feet away, and the "cone of vision/alert" thing just feels like a dumb thing to include. Not only that, it really seems weird to make swinging a bludgeon drain stamina. I suppose it makes sense as running does the same, so too would wildly swinging your arm, but it just feels weird when so few other games make basic attacks drain your stamina (if they even include something like that).

Plus, it barely feels anything like the original Prey, so why bother with the name?
>>
>>376377778
It isn't anything like Bioshock. The game was practically made as a criticism to Bioshock, and all psycho-abilities are applicable to the world and scenarios rather than being used only for combat and a few simple things.

>>
>>376377817

>>
>>376377554
I don't know what the fuck people want from games anymore, but I've been enjoying the hell out of it. I want to unravel the world myself and learn new ways of dealing with certain situations and enemy types based on the surrounding environment and things I've learned from reading or just observing how an enemy functions. There's not many games where I feel its necessary to mentally map everything out which really brightens my day when things feel seamless and logical (aside from the station having so many sources of gas and the only real way to fix a burst is either with a glob of future glue or closing off the pipe not to mention the random explosives and turrets lying around everywhere).

This is the first time in a while where I've sincerely felt good playing something and nothing can take that away.
>>
>>376381814
It's obvious that the game is a multiple-layered simulation. The ending itself also seems to take place within a simulation.

That's not to mention some of the really odd stuff going on within the game. The Typhons repeat the same lines as the Enoch guy in the Cargo Bay. The Cook mentions the same flashbacks that you're experiencing when you mess around with Typhon shit.
>>
>>376381814
There's multiple endings in this game and it wouldn't be that surprising if they threw in something overly complicated like that.

The game has no soul. Devs specifically stated that story and lore were afterthoughts built around intended (rehashed) gameplay. How corporate.

That hacking minigame just pointless busywork and is the worst mplementation I've encountered. Automata's and Deus Ex: HR's are absolute perfection compared.
>>
>>376382578
It tries to be, but doesn't quite hit the mark like say Isolation did.

I only ever got surprised by the mimics, and that was more because of the music cueing in at random moments. Then I laughed as one of the headcrab ripoffs was doing cartwheels in the office room.

>Devs specifically stated that story and lore were afterthoughts built around intended (rehashed) gameplay
How is that bad? If anything, it's good that they focused on the gameplay first and foremost. As much as I enjoy story in a game, it doesn't mean much if the gameplay is complete rubbish. And while I wouldn't call the game perfect, it do some things at least competently. The open-ended nature of the level design means you don't have to do everything before moving onto the next area, you can return when you more skills and weapons to access a room for supplies or another goody. Beyond that, I can't say much as I haven't seen every single enemy, though I'm guessing it's something like RE7's molded where they're all blackish monstrosities with little visual differences.

Generic science fiction space station setting with generic enterprising evil corporation with no morals unleashes a bland, uninteresting super organism bent on murder.

Oh, and there are skill points and upgrades and shit.

I feel like I've seen this a million times before.

All this is is another homage to Alien/The Thing etc.

Why are AAA video games so... unimaginative?

>>
>>376383778
We are here, but in small numbers. /v/ is actively shitposting this game into a grave because it stole the name from the original Prey, showed a completely different game as a sequel to the first Prey a few years back, uses Denuvo meaning no one can currently pirate it, and it had almost no advertising at all just like Dishonored 2 (which was probably a blessing considering the state it was in on release).
This is my favorite game I've played in quite a while, but it's going to either become a cult classic or get a revival from a sale/popular youtuber

If you don't consider this game to be at least a 7/10 after playing it, you've become jaded beyond recovery, have unrealistic expectations of the industry and most importantly have lost the ability to get immersed in games.

It's time for another hobby for you.

Im writing this as someone who would have laughed you out of the room a month ago if you even insinuated that Bethesda could ever publish a game that is not shit.

>>
>>376384170
probably difficulty/guns/skill/neuromods DLC.
>>
>>376384170
I am honestly hoping they add some sort of dlc, but I'd like it to be a new area. I'd imagine by 2030 if we have this space station orbiting the moon we'd have some sort of base built there as well, so hopefully that can introduce the more evolved forms and maybe even spooky moon tunnels
>>
So is there any real point to picking between female and male Morgan? Since there doesn't appear to be a third-person option, it seems kind of superfluous.

I really wasn't into the demo. Thesound and music was terrible, the art direction was bland, the enemy uninteresting, the feel was so cumbersome and clunky in a bad way. Seemed liked it might have decent rpg elements, but aside from that, I really couldn't see potential in it. Seems like Bioshock fucked modern Deus Ex and drank a bit too much during the pregnancy.
>>
>>376384717
Then enlighten us.
>>
The last good space/action horror game was Dead Space 2

Maybe alien isolation if you enjoy being a useless chick that has to run from everything
>>
>Game encourages back tracking

It's shit.
>>
>>376384621
Fairly certain that is wrong. They breed eels for meat and grow vegetables. They also receive supplies for things they cannot grow.
>>
>>376382378

there's only one layer of simulation. If you've seen any of the endings (they're all the same), you're reliving memories, so everything that you play in the game are memories. this isn't inception, it's VERY straight forward.
>>
>>376384351
Dishonored 2 was perfectly fine for me after the CPU priority fix (which you could ghetto do yourself anyway).
>>
>>376384840
It's wonky and the ambient soundtrack is weird and oppressive, but the gameplay is really good if you value player agency. It's not about how difficult it is, but how the game gives you a fairly open ended way to approach any situation. There's a lot of things the game doesnt hold your hand with, which is so nice to play these days when games that practically play themselves dominate the AAA industry. The enemies feel fresh, too and are just imposing enough to keep me agitated and throttle my speed of clearing each room. Resource management feels like it pays off, too, which is so rare to see. RE7 for example made me feel like an idiot for conserving resources, but in this game I am totally autistic and hoard everything, yet I still sometimes end up feeling emaciated or making tough decisions as to what to craft.

If you like xyz-shocks and dude sexes, this is most definitely a quality entry in that genre.
>>

>>
>>376384947
The point is because it's giving you (the Typhon an identity. The entire point of the game is to make a Typhon human.

>>376385318
No, there's multiple layers of simulation.

https://youtu.be/cElX-Fxy21U?t=29m30s

If you pay very close attention, there's a split-frame where you see a view of Alex removed from the scene during the ending. Now it's easy to handwave it as being an actual glitch, but a similar 'glitch' ALSO occurs during the initial helicopter ride where the Looking Glass briefly flickers blue for a frame.

I don't think the bots themselves are different other than the lighting due to the compression and so forth.

However, the glitch much like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n05C9HNyWEQ signifies that something stranger is going on here.

This + the cryptic tweets from one of the developers seems to signify there must be something deeper we're missing.
>>

And unless we're both missing each other, it just seems weird having that "tense" score going on while nothing is coming at me. Baby, it's okay, I didn't mean to hurt you.
But the game is only decent.
It's okay to be upset, and someday, you'll overcome this.
But it's okay, and it's going to be okay.

You are sad for being too autistic to tell the difference between posters
>>
>>376387313
Oh its intentional, but it means nothing without additional context. There is zero reason to believe that they would (the same 4 operators) have you in a simulation ontop of one.

So unless they just "added" Alex to make it easier for the Phantom to agree, then maybe. But, it is just a little icing on the top

I thought everything was real before the ending because I didn't expect the entire fucking game to be a dream. Like I said, you can waste your time explaining but then you'd be reddit trying to make sense of shit. It's such a stupid fucking twist that delegitimizes your entire experience of the game and I genuinely can't believe people are eating it up. It's literally a fucking '...and then I woke up' tier ending.
>>
>>376387839
I think the context is that something is really odd with the simulation in general. As I've mentioned before, you can talk to Rose in the Cargo Bay who repeats the same lines as the Typhons.

>Like I said, you can waste your time explaining but then you'd be reddit trying to make sense of shit

You realize the ending was foreshadowed since the very beginning of the game, right? Not only do you deal with the Trolley problem TWICE, but there's one ending that directly proves you're in a simulation before you even hit the halfway point of the game if you're doing sidequests instead of rushing through like a retard.

Unfortunately all that's happening is your character is rotating 180 degrees, Alex is still there. In that video the guy just doesn't move so it looks behind at where Alex is no longer standing. You can look to the right and you will be able to see him when the camera flips.

Although if you take Alex's hand I'm pretty sure what he says is an exact quote of what he says when you wake up at the start of the game, which is the sort of thing which makes me think its still a sim.

>>
>>376388151
The obsession with plot twists regardless of how much it detracts from other elements of the story or the player's sense of autonomy is obviously a holdover from System Shock 2 and Bioshock. A simple and straightforward "everyman against the odds" story without a shred of cynicism like in System Shock 1 is too low brow for the modern western developer, even though it's the kind of story that fits a game that's supposed to have player agency the most. I'm baffled that Avellone would have his name attached to this game, you'd think that he would know better.
>>
>only kids use words based on the literal definitions

So you admit you're random. Cool.

>>
>say that only children use words properly
>use "kiddo" as an insult to imply you aren't a child, just a pompous retard who wouldn't be caught dead using words properly
That's admitting to being random. Funny how you cry about all the things that happened to you, be an absolute hypocrite and shit yourself when you get BTFO again and again

It's clearly why you're so desperate for the last word and the validation of your precious (You)s

So this is the last one get, since all you did was get destroyed and dig yourself into a much deeper hole

You view this in terms of winning and losing because you're that much of a loser and you keep replying in the desperation of your perceived loss

Adorable

But please, do keep acting like YOU won the fight when all you did was just call others sad after being blown out for getting fixated on a trivial thing like spacing and not actually addressing the arguments presented to you.

And no, I didn't say children only use words properly, I said that only children say "random" to describe someone doing "random" things, learn to read, bub.

>>376377554
It's GOTY.

It was never going to be bad but when people still believe it's a Bethesda game and still refuse to use "Immersive Sims" as a genre name you get shit like "it looks like alien isolation" "it's bioshock in space" "it's like dead space in first person"

To be fair I'm not sure why you're still talking to him. I get you're trying to hold his nose in what he did and say he's a bad shitposter, but he'll probably justify it in his mind by thinking "It was merely a jape :^)".
>>
>>376390790
Bioshock in space is used purposefully as an insult. I'm actually very surprised that it doesn't seem to be all that watered down with it being a joint PC and console release since games can almost never escape it. It was a mistake to release a demo for an immersive sim on everything but PC though, especially after Dishonored 2's poor port, and they deserve their poor sales because of it. You can understand why people would be skeptical.
>>
>>376390947
The game does run great but it's quite a bit more instensive than Dishonored 1 so if you can only run that on minimum settings at 30 fps this game won't be playable for you. Optimization isn't black magic.

There'll probably be a decent sale soonish since Bethesda isn't too stingy on the sales, but apparently it's doing well enough that the key peddlers at CDkeys and G2A have actually increased the price since release.

It's still more like System Shock as that was in space, like this game. The only thing remotely similar to Bioshock is the wrench beginner weapon, the "location going to shit before you get there" set up, and that's about it. Even then, both things are not exactly exclusive to Bioshock.

god you are a fucking moron- what did you think was going on when you escaped the simulation labs?

the ending of the game really has no correlation with what's going on in the actual game itself. You're RELIVING the memories of morgan yu, who did go through that simulation bullshit, but that does not mean that the final scene of the game is ALSO a simulation. frames freaking out is just grasping at straws. the game is incredibly straight forward and constantly tries to shove its story down your throat, so how are you confused about it?
