Is this the best controller for retrogaming on pc?
>>
>>376353370
Xbox one elite controller is the best
>>
>>376354116
for retro gaming? as the wii u pro controller has a nicer dpad for NES/SNES games. Xbone (elite) is probably better for anything else, though.
>>
Dualshock 4 is literally perfect
Or wired 360

>>376353370
the steam controller is obviously the best controller. if you turn the gyro to "always on" you can be just as precise as if you were using a mouse.
>>
>>376354441
for some games you need to use x360ce to because it does/doesnt support xinput (or some shit, I just ran the program and it worked)
>>
>>376354441
Only via bluetooth, the USB cable only charges it.
>>
>>376354116
>wireless
>USB-C charger
Absolute trash.
>>
>>376354780
So it's the same as the wiiu one, which is annoying
>>
>>376354289
>Dualshock 4
garbage battery, lightbar is annoying too (although you can at least turn that off when using with a PC), also dpad isn't great and some prefer the alternate stick layout.
>Or wired 360
worst dpad and heavier than the others
>>
>>376355173
ask your stepdad to buy you a steam controller.
>>
>>376355326
steam controller's probably the worst of them all. Honestly, though, it depends on personal preference and what sort of games you intend to play. For retro games, as OP specified, an wii u pro, switch pro controller, or maybe even an xbone controller would be best for him.
>>
>>376355465
how do you figure?
>>
>>376355680
because a good dpad is important for retro games, the traditional (NES/SNES-like) button layout of those controllers also helps; heck, the wii u pro controller specifically has the same button layout as an SNES on its bottom half.
>>
>>376353370
no. use a snes usb controller or an xbone for 3d games.
>>
>>376355936
what's wrong with the steam controller's d-pad?
>>
>>376356089
this is bait, right?
>>
>>376356209
use your words, cunt. is the d-pad too big for your fingers or what? i'm not a mind reader.

literally the best dpad ever made
>>
>>376356089
it doesn't have one...
>>
>>376354371
great but dpad a tiny bit too stiff for some old retro games
>>
>>376353370
I wish both sticks on top was a more common setup. I really dislike that nintendo went back to gamecube style stick placement with the switch pro controller. It would be neat if they released a mirrored left joycon or something.
>>
Recent convert from xbox 360 to DS4

I tried an xbone S but the build quality was terrible. Saw that the DS4 could be connected with bluetooth and since I already have a PS4 I gave it a shot. Works great and not looking back

No, DS4 is.

i liked the old wii classic pro controller
but tbqh all i use is the xbone controller now
>>
>>376357674
is this a joke?
OP specified retrogaming, and for that the DS4 is a crap choice.
>>
>>376357978
also my hitbox, but i don't expect random people to buy one of those
>>
>>376353370
>>
>>376358027
Why?
I mean if you're going to argue from a purist angle, then everything but the original controller or a replica is a crap choice. What specifically about the DS4 makes it worse than the Wii U Pro for instance?
>>
>>376358235
>retro gaming
>asymmetrical dpad and buttons
YAMEROOOOOO
>>
>>376353370
Does this work naturally, or do you have to do some weird setup?
>>
>>376358349
>What specifically about the DS4 makes it worse than the Wii U Pro for instance?
the dpad, the battery life, the button layout and overall "feel" of the buttons. This isn't from a purist angle either, it just doesn't make sense to use a DS4 for retrogaming - especially with that style of dpad that is horrible for any sidescrolling game.

>>
>>376358504
I agree the battery life could be better but it doesn't kill the controller especially when it's rechargeable and you're not going to use its full life in one session anyway

As for the dpad, I just got done putting 25 hours into Hollow Knight with it and I think it's probably the best dpad among the big 3 competitors. The Xbone's is too clicky and the Wii U Pro's is too mushy. There's nothing wrong with the DS4's dpad, you must be thinking of the 360 or something
>>
Wait this thing actually works on PC? Can I use it for Cemu emulation?
>>
>>376356353
But worst ergonomics ever.

It may not be the "correct" way to play retro games, but I hook my arcade stick up to my PC for them and it's super comfy.
>>
>>376358803
>you're not going to use its full life in one session anyway
well I have, multiple times in fact. The battery barely manages 3 hours in my experience.
>There's nothing wrong with the DS4's dpad, you must be thinking of the 360 or something
I disagree, I always found that weird gap they put in the DualShock dpad's to be very uncomfortable for platformers, where a rocking motion is a necessity. Granted, it's not as bad for the DS4 as the DS3 and below, but I still don't find it nearly as comfortable as a traditional '+'-shaped dpad. The original 360 dpad is a fucking travesty though, I'll give you that - they did revise it for later models and the Xbone at least.

Also, I find it odd that you say you find the Wii U Pro too mushy, as for me the DualShock dpads always felt really mushy compared to Nintendo and Xbox dpads.

The only thing good to come from the Xbone is the controller, specifically the updated Xbone S controller.

Perfect first party drivers that never have any issues and has maximum range of compatibility across basically everything.
Detachable wire so you can replace cheaply it in case the insides get warped instead of getting a new controller.
Ergonomics and functionality of buttons are perfect, and has gripped thumbsticks and a D-pad that doesn't suck donkey balls like the 360's controller.
Bluetooth support that works like a charm, have never had any issues yet.

The only con is that it still uses AA batteries for wireless functionality as opposed to the more standard built-in rechargeable Li-ion batteries. However, independent rechargeable AA batteries are finally at the sweet spot of being affordable and long-lasting (Panasonic Eneloops especially), so it's not even an issue anymore.

Is there a way to configure the gyro on PC yet?
I'm playing Dragon's Dogma using my DS4's gyro to aim and it's great but I wish I could be using the superior controller.
>>
>>376358950
yes, but it's really difficult to get it to work with regular bluetooth adapters, it's far easier to just get a mayflash adapter. Note that you can't just plug it via USB since it only uses USB for charging, not for input (early dualshock 4 controllers have the same problem, as do most/all(?) 360 controllers).

Steam lets you configure DS4 inputs a lot, I made it so when I press R2 the game takes both the stick and the gyro as camera inputs.

>>376353370
Sega Saturn controller is way superior due to the great dpad which is just great for retros and especially fighting games, but a ds4 works good too, because it has more buttons with better layout compared to an Xbox or Wii U pro controller, sadly the dpad is pretty shit on the ds4 and emulators aren't compatible with the touchpad.

I'm surprised this controller's battery last 70 hours. I have playing BotW since March 3rd and had to recharge it two fucking times.

Best controller ever

>>376357509
There are even wireless versions of these, but you need an adapter to make it work on PC.
>>
>>376361390
yeah, too bad that you can't aim with it
>>
>>376361390
It may have a good battery life, but that doesn't mean it a good controller. The button layout on the bottom is shit just like the dpad.
