I disagree, I think they complement each other really well.
Having read the book before I watched the movie, I was pleased to see the little touches and nods to the book, considering how different the film was.
I feel it all adds up, together, to something great.
As standalone pieces of entertainment however, I would say the film is slightly better, but I mean that in no discredit to the book.

Probably. He wants to please the fans, but he doesn't want to have to appear in any more sequels.

The first time I watched Blade Runner about a decade ago I wasn't really impressed. I thought it had some good style, but it was too drawn out and boring at times.
Then I kept seeing it occasionally over the years and I started appreciating it more and more.
The last time I watched Blade Runner was maybe one or two years ago and I really liked it. I still don't think it's a 10/10 as some feel about it, but I would give it a 8.5 on a non-inflated rating scale.
