It's lame. That one SCP-173 game set in a dark stairwell was much better.

I genuinely cant play it. SCP-173 makes me really anxious. On top of that he's very poorly coded. The game often glitches out and spawns him in the room you're already in. Not in front of you, but behind you or to the side of you which is an instant death. His pathfinding is also dog shit, he clips through walls all the fucking time. Often, when I'm walking backwards from him to get away, the game will despawn him and have him spawn right behind me. Instant death. It's both terrifying and extremely aggravating.

I like SCP, but the game play is too slow for my taste. Not complaining, though. the game is free, can be modded. there's a Gary's Mod map that's really huge called, SCP Site 19 or something. if that map is a replica of the actual SCP game map, you will never finish it the actual game.

Models, engine, visuals in general are complete garbage. It compensate with good horror concepts, every enemy is as scary as your lack of knowledge of them, they are all invincible but not undefeatable . Jumpscares aren't just oga booga in your face and the sound design is godlike. And the things is, I don't know if there will be any improvements if they actually fixed the bad part except the engine.

How about making 173 a stable threat with actual rules rather than an external force of the game which can kill you at complete random regardless of what precautions you take.

I agree with everything you said though. SCP is genuinely frightening and challenging. I find most horror games without combat to be garbage for the lowest common denominator but in SCP isn't about running and hiding from enemies. Every enemy has a gimmick that you have to abide by to keep yourself alive. As far as I'm concerned if they were able to fix the glitchiness of 173 (never gonna happen) it would be a perfect horror game.

I'm fine with 106 going through walls because that's the point of his character, his gimmick is that he's an interdimensional being that can pass through solid objects. He's incredibly easy to avoid, the sound cue / music is very clear and when he does spawn and it takes him about ten seconds before he can even begin pursuing you. He really only becomes a nightmare if you encounter him and 173 at the same time.

I think 173 is an excellent enemy if they actually perfected his coding. I find 173 genuinely frightening. Every time I enter a new room I'm sweating balls, peeking out from the doorway to scan the corners of the room. They just desperately need to fix his noclipping and spawning glitches.

Sounds like you played it when it first came out. Now it has actual endings. You can actually escape. There's shitloads of monsters now, not just hostile ones, but inanimate objects like the machine, the theater mask, the gas mask that gives you alternate personalities, the coffee machine, the spotlights, the coffin, etc etc. As discussed in this thread a big problem it has is the glitchiness of the statue. If you play again, for fuck sake play it on the easiest difficult so you can quicksave at will rather than only at designated save spots. 173 will make it a very miserable experience.
