I've never met anyone who has played Fusion Frenzy or Sword of Vermilion. The first being for xbox and 2nd being for the Genesis. Fusion Frenzy was a criminally fun game and I used to play it all the time with my family back in the day.

A Target near me had this set up at the demo station for the longest time and I would play it every now and then. Actually remember it being pretty fun but the demo only had like 2 characters and 1 stage available.

The few times I've seen this mentioned it's always written off as a Valkyria Chronicles rip-off despite actually releasing a year before VC. Even then there's only really a couple of similarities between them such as being SRPGs with pseudo-realtime battles and an emphasis on firearms and artillery.

Actually wasn't that bad. The few reviews for it slam it as some kind of abomination, but aside from subpar graphics and clunky animations, the gameplay was decent enough and it had an interesting story and setting. Basically takes place during WWII and follows a group of British SAS soldiers throughout the battles. The twist is that it incorporates a lot of supernatural elements thanks to Hitler making a deal with a clan of vampires and shit, so you're dealing with zombies and vampires alongside the enemy forces. Two of the main characters can also turn into werewolves and there's a mage with the main group. Jack the Ripper even joins the group.

Gameplay is similar to VC. Characters can freely move a certain distance during their turn and take cover behind objects. You can even issue a command to have them shoot at the enemy while running to a set position, though it lowers accuracy. Staying out in the open makes them more likely to be targeted obviously. Different firearms have different range, and you can use items like grenades. It makes it a bit more unique by giving characters specialized skills, such as the two characters mentioned before being able to turn into werewolves which increases their stats, and the mage character who can cast spells that damage multiple enemies. Was actually fairly challenging and even had a perma-death feature for characters that die during a battle if you don't revive them before the stage ends.

In the intermissions between stages, they would include brief history lessons about important battles and figures during WWII and even old footage, which was a pretty neat touch.

I honestly think it would have caught on more if they improved the graphics and animations, were are admittedly pretty ugly, and anime'd up the artwork a bit more. Though it already had decent waifus, and the main female antagonist was a titty monster.
