Yeah, loot systems are often kinda annoying because they just add the busywork of having to stop and compare drops every 5 minutes.
The loot system in Nioh is particularly bad too because they shower you in equipment that can have so many damn effects that you just get lost if you try to min-max.
And there's not that much variety in skins, so you're just swapping identical weapons just to stack numbers most of the time.

I much prefer a standard weapon upgrading system.

Bare-handed parry is in the game. They also made unarmed damage a dump stat for skill point. Unarmed is certainly viable if you're good enough.

This pretty much. I'd also say I haven't noticed any issues where I get fucked because of stupid tracking issues. As for bosses, Nioh takes the cake in human ones and Souls in creatures. Though every build needs a bit magic to back them up so it won't be just a battle of endurance.

I just finished the game. Killed the real endboss but I get my shit kicked in by the optional 2x bosses at ones levels. I played katana the whole way through.

I'm level 104 but I feel I do really low damage. Can some recommend a fun pve build?

also make sure you reforge your gear to effects that help your katana, also getting supporting magic like the armor debuff, or the power pills helps

Sony needs to make the PlayStation 5 already that can provide the following:
