It's good or was when I played it, I liked it for giving me that MOBA kick without making me want to scream like Dota used to. It's a streamlined MOBA with talents you get at set levels in place of items, one big shared xp/level pool instead of 5 individuals ones that really dissuades the "farm until 20:00" aspect of other games and it's objective based so you're actually doing shit 5 minutes into the game. Matches end fairly fast too (20 - 25 mins vs the avg. 45+ of other games).
I'd recommend it if you want a chill MOBA(hate that genre name but whatcha gonna do)

It's a "proper" roguelike meaning that it looks like pic related.
Basically pure gameplay with RPG and a healthy amount RNG elements to keep things interesting, stuff only happens when you do stuff like choose to move, attack, rest etc. The goal of this one is to descend through a series of levels and dungeons, take 3 runes(or up to 15 for a high score) to enter a dungeon where a magical orb is guarded, take that orb and ascend back to where you started. Shitloads of races, classes and gods to choose from and each run is pretty fresh. Don't really have any non-roguelike games to compare it to but if you like rogue-lites/random elements and masochism you'll probably love DCSS.

>FFT
Rented it from Blockbuster back in late 90s. Got cock blocked at Dorter Trade city. It was the first time a game had really challenged me (I was like 13 maybe). Love the combat, love the character, love the story. One of the only RPGs around that time not to have any semblance of a romance sub plot for the protag. War is hell, yada yada.
>Gunstar Heroes
Played this with my life long best friend when we were real young on the Genesis. Hours on hours. We beat it over a dozen times. Love the way they do gun style combination power ups. Really solid 2d shooter + nostalgia glasses.
>Diablo
The loot system Blizzard uses now is so prevalent because it -is- engaging to hope for the next good drop. Diablo 1 specifically because it was the closest to horror out of any of those games. Great aesthetic and fun combat. Loved building my characters.
>EverQuest
Kinda the same as above, but it was the first of what would become a long infatuation with MMOs. Played for the... sense of discovery and exploration. "Role Playing" I guess, without being so deep as to actually RP my character.

Artistic game, yada yada. Really love the visual design and puzzle solving is always fun. Gameplay was solid enough and I really liked how the story wasn't ever fully explained. They drop you in without much context, you figure some stuff out, and other stuff just... never gets explained.
>Lunar 2
Basically Lunar 1 but better. I'm a sucker for classic RPGs and this one is one of the most straight forward. It's simplistic, but extremely refined. As a result of there not being too many moving parts, mechanically (Ronfar is your healer, Lemina is your wizard... etc) it was able to be really clean and polished.
>StarCraft Brood War
SC but better. Loved the multiplayer even though I was shit at it. I still lament the death of the RTS genre. Used to play C&C, Total Annihilation, Warcraft, Age of empires... but Brood War was just the most polished.

>Demon's Souls
Hadn't played a game like it before. I'm a pretty solid soulsfag, but Demon's was the first one to get me into it, and I still think it really shines aesthetically. The bosses may be gimmicky and easier than the future games, but loved the style and loved the worlds. Not being continuous means they didn't have to worry about logically connecting, say, the shrine of storms to the valley of defilement. That meant each individual area had the freedom to be better done.
>Super Metroid
Continuing the theme: Discovery. Action. Puzzle-y bits. Really liked the isolationism (you are alone on this planet. Demon's Souls sort of shared this aesthetic of being alone despite the Nexus). Just really responsive mechanically, and there was a ton of content. Played it a while after it came out, but even years later it held up as a really solid exploratory 2D platformer / shooter.

It has less deep combat then other Platinum games, like Bayo or The Wonderful 101, and if you don't like games that try to be deep, it's not really for you, but it has some imaginative elements and a god-tier soundtrack. It's pretty long if you want to see all of the main endings, which you should, but well-worth it, imo.

I don't wanna sell you on Automata, but instead, play Yoko Taro's previous games, or at the very least, the original NieR because Automata might be the best sequel ever made since it improves almost everything (except arguably characters) while still feeling like a NieR game instead of a stupid cuhrayzee Platinum game.
If you've got an open mind and wanna experience something completely unique, play all of Taro's games starting from Drakengard 1, then NieR, then Drakengard 3, then Automata like I did. It's one hell of a ride.

I'm very open minded when it comes to games. I'm too old to be worrying about "whether or not a genre is for fags" or whatever kids think these days.
While I'm usually not into the "cuhrayzee " thing (again, really really fast twitch 3rd person combat games like Bayo or DMC) I have enjoyed a few.
"Games that try to be deep" are fine as well as long as they're well executed. I'm definitely looking to try Nier, it's just sort of where it falls in my line up.
Also, I've never played the first or any of the Drakengard games. Are these big time investments? 2017 is jam packed as is, but if they're between 8-20 hours I could definitely squeeze them in over a weekend.
