I don’t think it’s mentioned in the gun’s tutorial, but you find email logs between the guys who designed the dart gun as an office prank. One guy mentions he added “capacitive tips” to the darts so they can shoot each others’ computers in the cubicles.
>>
>>376324123
That's fine. As long as you're not forced to find out about this. Based Avellone worked on this game, so I'm kind of interested in it.
>>
>>376324260
It’s pretty great so far, but I’m less than 10 hours in.

The issues with PC optimization that plagued Dishonored 2 aren’t present here, for anyone interested. I can get a solid 50 fps out of Dishonored at 1920x1080 and medium settings.
I’m getting a solid 120-150 on Prey with every setting maxed out.

I had some crashing issues, but disabling VSync seemed to fix them.

>>
>>376324123
Holy shit. I'm 12 hours into the game, and have gotten the gun and read the emails. But I have never thought to use it for this, I've only used it as a distraction tool.

So far you don't need to know you can do this to get through the main plot, but it helps with several parts if you figure it out and it's one of two ways to get through a few optional objectives.

For someone who had ~0 interest when it was announced, I've been enjoying it. It's still got some issues in PC though, and given that it's Arkane I'm wary that they'll every be fixed ...

It’s pretty well-written so far.

Some of the dialogue seems very… deliberate? But the plot and setting kind of justifies it. I think it’ll be like Sixth Sense; you’ll learn something over the course of the game that puts everything in a new context for repeat playthroughs.

Do you know if Avellone wrote for Kreia? I know he worked for Obsidian…

You can turn those off in settings. I find it useful to check things like damage falloff, and how much benefit you get from sneak attacks, elemental bonuses, etc.

>Dishonored with guns

Well, dishonored had guns already.

But yeah, the UI is extremely similar, and the movement system is almost exactly the same (sliding, mounting, climbing, etc). It even does that thing where you’ll crouch low enough to get under cover if you push up against a table while sneaking.

There’s a stealth system, with enemy awareness indicators, stealth attack bonuses, a mod system much like bone charms (getting health from sneak attacking is my favorite), and a morality system based on whether you kill or free corrupted humans. You also unlock supernatural powers at one point. One of them is extremely fun from a stealth perspective.

Feels a lot like Dishonored, come to think of it.

I’d say it’s similar to 3 games in different ways

System Shock 2
>inventory management
>weapon upgrading
>skill trees
>hub level and how all the sections of the station tie into it

BioShock
>Level design
>Aesthetic
>Story structure
>research system

Dishonored
>UI
>movement mechanics
>passive upgrades
>supernatural powers

>>376326492
>you don't really have stats and skills and stuff.
You’re either lying or haven’t played it. It has the same sort of stats/skills layout as System Shock (Repair 1/2/3, Hacking 1/2/3/4, Standard weapons 1/2/3, Exotic Weapons 1/2/3)
Just replace Neuromods with Cybernetic Modules, and PSI with… PSI, and it’s pretty much identical

This is before you can get Mimic. But it is a great strategy to get in confined spaces. I like to keep something in my inventory at all times to bypass small gaps.

>>376327914
There are very few gimmicks. Yes, it's good.

>>376327582
Yeah, off the top of my head, I can think of several upgrades that would suit a pure melee build
>Full athleticism upgrade (high jumps, fast running, fast climbing)
>Max Stamina
>Combat focus (slow down time, remove all stamina penalties, increase damage)
>Full Stealth run (Sprinting makes no noise)
>Max sneak attack damage
>Max wrench damage

You also get a jetpack that lets you slow/direct your falls in normal gravity. Could save you from the risks of full speed gameplay
>>
> Moving heavy objects requiring Leverage 3 out of the way by making a gas cylinder explode near them.

That's what I like about Immersive Sim, things that should realistically work generally work and are not restricted in a gamey way.

You can also drop a recycler charge next to the Lev 3 objects and just black hole them.

I mean, you should hold on to your weapons, ammo, and health stuff. But if its junk (grey material with no other use), then recycle away.

>What skills are worth going for first?
I like to get the baseline hack and repair skills. The skill that lets you extract better organs from the Typhon is nice, since they’re your primary source of Exotic materials. Very useful when you get the blueprint to make neuromods

Because most "gamers" today are autistics children and don't look up because they are feed with halo level design everyday.

So making the crosshair lower helps player see the world as a 3D space and not only a corridor.
>>
>>376330731
Because the game has high ceilings and pretty environments and they didn't want players staring at the ground the entire time

Same reason Halo does it
>>
>>376329097
It's going to be my next, doing typhon only one now. Which is kinda close to no powers mode, since everything quality of life is in the human neuromods, jumping, repairs and some damage resistance, no to mention inventory space.

This also means some of the places are closed off to you completely, and in some cases you'll have to find some parts in separate areas, since you can't repair shit. Oh, and no upgraded guns either.

At least you can recycle the fuck out of everything.
>>
>>376331025

If Prey is a corridor shooter, so is System Shock 2. Only to a greater extent though.

It's a game about exploring a space station. Between squeezing yourself into every nook and cranny you can find, you do things like:

¬fly around outside of the station in your jetpack
¬recycle everything that isn't bolted to the floor like a hardcore environmentalist
¬complete sidequests that flesh out some of the other survivors, as well as giving you new toys and bonuses
¬shoot Ayys
¬scan Ayys so you can acquire their powers for yourself

I'm 100% sure that Arkane was working on a new IP, aka this game when Bethesda acquired the rights for Prey and because Bethesda is a retarded company they thought that Arkane's new IP wouldn't sell well. So they just slapped the Prey title on it and called it a reboot to be really sure that it sells.

They did the game a diservice to be honest. This game would have stood on its own two feet with no problems.

Anon, when you can bind over 20 weapons, gadgets and powers to your hotbar, it is very useful to have a way of sorting through them quickly without.

Please, tell me another system that allows me to keep my hands on my mouse and WASD while sorting through over 20 options quickly without breaking the flow by entering a menu.

As it stands, a weapon wheel is just

Did you kill all the people in the cargo bay?
>>
>>376354336
For me, it's just right.
Not too deep, not to shallow.
There's stuff to craft, there's different recipes, and different ways of obtaining the crafting materials that flow naturally with the gameplay.

I don't have to go far out of my way to get shit I need, but it also doesn't just happen by itself.
Same with carfting blueprints. I'm glad my exploration of side areas rewarded me with the neuromod blueprint super early on.
It's perfect.

I feel the same way about the number of possible activities in the world too. Not to little, not too many. It's just right, in this nice sweet spot of there being things to look out for and go pursue, but not too many things so that it's overwhelming and that you end up ALWAYS finding things whether you're looking or not.

Dahl is bluffing, kinda: if you go take out the tech officer like you were going to, it fixes the air since no one is hacking it anymore. So if you have subtitles on you can read what the Phantoms are saying to each other or themselves, whatever.

(rough memory)
"I used to wish we weren't alone in the universe"
"They want to live inside us, like a disease"
"Even when we're dead it's not over"

Two things are weird about this.
1. January tells you they have no language, this conflict of information is never addressed as far as I'm aware.

And the far more interesting one
2. When you get to the cargo bay and meet up with security, Rose says ALL these lines of dialogue to you, word for word, with added context.

The fuck is that. My only theory is The simulation has problems, and this is a glitch in that. But this is never brought up in a way that implies it would do this, so it's just a rationalization I had to come up with myself. Did I miss something? Are either of these things addressed and I just somehow missed them?

Once you start this quest the 4 people in this room will spawn alive in life support. Seems a cheap way of keeping them hidden until the quest is activated. "

Are we going to get "i haven't played the game" posts every now and then?
>>
>>376341432
There's something called Looking Glass in the game that's a very cool visual. You'll be walking down a hallway and see a fish tank and even hear the sound of the fish. But if you hit the glass it will reveal it's just a 3d projection in the glass. That happens a few times in the game and it's sweet every time. It's like that scene from Mission Impossible https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydIPKkjBlMw

Haven't really invested in anything but pyrokinesis and mimicry, since stun gun does a good job.
>>
>>376366292
Basically you had blank Neuromods installed on you as an inside job, which made the researchers confused as to why you weren't using powers.

Since they thought that the Neuromod hadn't worked, then they couldn't remove it and reset Morgan's memory; so they just try to chalk it up as one bad dream.

The point is that Morgan is meant to remember the test from the previous day to make them think something is up.

Not him, but the weapon wheel definitely takes a bit of the challenge away. Just being able to pause and heal via wheel or inventory in general is kind of a rinky dink process.

...no it was designed. they just left it up to the player to figure out for the most part.

My only gripe with the game is the actual designs of the Typhons. Wispy grey shit in vague forms aren't doing it for me. That being said the concept of mimics are fucking awesome
>>
>>376373081
That's a fair argument, but it's got nothing to do with consoles or PC. Both System Shocks had insta-heal items that could be used with a single keypress.
>>
>>376373081
i know what you mean, but every 'immersive-sim'/deusex/systemshock game has menu healing.

id say its better than having regenerating health because at least you can be at risk of having to skulk around on low health (though medkits and food are so plentiful on hard. not sure if that changes with difficulty.)
>>
>>376373417
It's my biggest problem with the game as well. Reminds of in Raising The Bar where they talked about why the Hydra was scrapped from HL2. They're awkward to deal with from a first person perspective.
>>
>>376373151
Kind of depends on how meticulous and prepared you are versus mimics. There are ways to save yourself a heart attack if you're really afraid of them. Aside from mimics, there's only one actual jump-scare that I've encountered so far, that I can remember, but it didn't even bother me because of how cool it was. I'm not too far in the game, though, probably less than halfway.
>>
>>376373151
that's the only scripted jumpscare. everything else is mimics jumping you or the nightmare spawning
>>
are there like a dozen new enemy types that show up after getting the helmet? since the mimic and the phantom only unlock 1/10 of all the new neuromods.

I dislike the gunplay more. I think the enemies would be fine if the gunplay felt less floaty and more like Half Life or Killing Floor or something.

Like, let's say if you could gib the Typhons as you chip away at their health, and you'd have more accurate gunplay. Would probably have to redo how accuracy upgrades work, though, of course. Idunno, something regarding the combat itself feels rather wonky. Still, having fun though.

I overuse them, but I'd be lying if I didn't admit they're kind of redundant in a world where you can leave a zone, then come back later to find the turrets you carefully set up to be all broken without having made any kills. Still, when you do occasionally catch a mimic or even have a turret successfully alert you to flanking Typhon, it's pretty fun.

I was thinking the same thing. They obviously could do mirrors fairly easily if they wanted to with the Looking Glass shit, but they didn't. Might be due to console fuckery because mirrors are more often in action-packed areas, while the Looking Glass displays typically aren't. Plus they're not showing action, they're just showing some cell floating off in the void.
