Is it true, that the franchise went to complete shit after this?
I just started Double Agent and I am highly concerned, that it will not get better a few hours in. Controls seem less responsive and there are a number of annoying issues playing on PC.

Does Double Agent get better further down the line.

What about Conviction and Blacklist?

Is there any new game on the horizon?

Where are the Spliter Cell Bros at?
>>
>>376321098
Double agent PC version is buggy as shit and overall gutted because they outsourced it to the shitty chink studio while the devs of CT made the 6th gen console version which is like a completely different game.

>What about Conviction and Blacklist?

We don't talk about those.
>>
>>376321098
Yes.
>>
Xbox/ps2 version of Double Agent is awesome as fuck. It's like Chaos Theory in every way, with some extra things. I feel privileged to have played it while most people never will.

Conviction is just killkillkill everyone. Blacklist is a step in the right direction but guards are still way too easy to kill.
>>
>>376322065
Whats the difference to the PC version?
>>
>>376322340

100%
CT is the absolute peak of the series
the old-gen version of Double Agent is actually great, while the new-gen version (PC/360/PS3) was a piece of shit
everything got worse from there
>>
>>376322708
wow what a bummer. why did they change the story for the ps3/360/pc version?
>>
>>376322340
You know how the PC/360/ps3 version (known officially as "version 1") is nothing like Chaos Theory? Well version 2 is just like CT in gameplay, with the light meter, sound meter, and controls. It also has a kickass tutorial level that you largely skip over in version 1. The PS2 version also has two extra levels. One where you rescue Sam's daughter from a terrorists in Washington, and another mission that's balls out crazy because Sam is on drugs and all the guards are walking on the ceiling and shit.
>>
>>376322925
The story is basically the same between the versions. It's just that the gameplay is neutered as fuck in version 1. You can still play version 2 if you can find a download of the PS2 version and run it on an emulator.

Well see at E3. It's a really big franchise of Ubisofts and e know Blacklist sold well, but we haven't heard anything about SC in a while. It's going to be either a new SC game or a new AC game.
>>
reminder that the stealth genre is completely stagnant, and has been since thief. we still haven't gotten past vision cones, hearing AoEs lightbars.
>>
>>376323560
Good luck finding it.
>>
>>376323637
I feel like AC has a way greater chance of being revealed this year. Wasn't there a leak regarding the egypt setting or something?
>>
>all these faggots in this thread shittalking based blacklist
you bitches don't know what's good.
ghosting through blacklist feels fucking great due to the way it rewards ghosting and the fact that it controls great.
>>
>>376324325
Yeah, it was some real "We waz kangz" shit. Made me think those rumours that BLM infiltrated ubisoft were true.
>>
>>376324553
It's literally too easy. You just go through arenas, connected by hallways or climbing sections where exposition is spouted at you on the radio. No alarms at all. You can blow up the first guys you find in the bangazhi level and the guys upstairs never hear it. Total bullshit. In CT, a room with 3 guards was dangerous as fuck. In Blacklist, you can mow down scores of soldiers effortlessly because of the health regen and OP weapons.
>>
I really fucking loved Blacklist. Conviction is worse, but still a fun game.
>>
>>376325059
>health regen
Tbh in Blacklist it's easy as fuck to die, two three shots max. I think Mark & Execute, alongside the OP weapons and gadgets makes it easy.

But the main reason is that it was cleary made with lethality in mind. If CT had Blacklist's gunplay, it would be easy too.
>>
>>376324553
>implying Panther isn't the best playstyle
>>
Chaos Theory is honestly the best game ever made imo. Very little action, no seeing through walls, no tagging enemies. Just perfect, slow stealth.

Conviction is a decent action game but a bad stealth game. It's actually pretty fun if you hold down on the d-pad to put away your weapon and do the whole game unarmed. If you use weapons, tagging or sonar though it's boring as fuck.

Blacklist is fucking trash and I hate it. It's everything that is wrong with Ubisoft. They even pretended that they didn't want Michael Ironside as an actor because he can't do mo cap, but it's clearly because he doesn't want to play a psycho Jack Bauer terrorist hunter.
>>
>>376325369
The guard AI feels way less smart in BL than it was in CT. In CT the guards will investigate shit like you would if it was midnight and you just heard weird noises outside your room. You can hear them talk about stuff a lot. In BL, guards are just patrolling or shooting. There's no real "investigate" state beyond them walking to a noise source. You can't lose them in shadows either because there's no lightbar and so you can never be fully hidden, doing stuff like shooting out all the lights in a room and then attacking everyone with your night vision on as they spray and pray.
>>
They should really drop the see through walls googles. It makes the game too easy.
>>
>>376326018
>he doesn't want to play a psycho Jack Bauer terrorist hunter.
Then why did he do Conviction?

>>376322340

>>
I'm looking for a man named Dvorak.
>>
>>376326018
>likes Conviction
>hates Blacklist
What did he mean by this?
>>
>>376326407
He might have liked that it was a personal story. But more likely he wasn't aware until after recording how it had gotten. In interviews for the early games he says something like how he's glad to be part of a franchise that doesn't just have mindless killing. He starred in Turbo Kid though, so I'm not entirely sure how much he dislikes violence.
>>
>>376326407
It was a mistake on his part. He hoped they would go back to regular Sam afterwards. But Conviction sold well and Ubisoft figured everybody loves 30 year old mass murderer Sam. Ironside had enough. I once saw a youtube video of him talking with a fan at a convention about why he didn't voice Sam in Blacklist. He didn't know he was being filmed and he told the fan he didn't like the direction they were taking Sam in. Ironside had this vision of Sam as being like an instrument that had been used too many times. In Blacklist, Sam was like this young, angry person who just wants kill and beat up everyone he meets.
>>
>>376326765

say monkey
>>
>>376326582
It has two more levels, actually. Also has the benefit of being emulatable, since no one ever made an xbox emulator (no point since the only game it had was Halo and that's been remade).
>>
>>376321098
After the fourth SC the franchise became more action oriented than infiltration. It's harder to act like a ghost now.
>>
>>376327009
One tries to be a mainstream action game with some stealth and succeeds, even though it's not what the fans want. The other tries to appeal to everyone and fails at everything. It's the most streamlined stealth shit ever.
>>
>>376327284
og xbox is still better because:

-more lights that you can shoot
-more environment details
-bigger levels (an exemple would be CIA headquarter ----PS2 version cuts out an entire zone. Ps2 version also remove lots of rooms)
-fewer loading spots
-way better graphics (better textures, models, shader effects, night vision, thermal and electric filters are done very well)
-way better shadows (higher resolution shadows)
-way better lighting (frequent use of dynamic lighting, better color saturation, lights will frequently cast shadows from objects and characters, very well made torchlight effect, etc)
-way better black level (in the xbox version it's black where it's supposed to be a blackout so you will have to use night vision goggle, whereas in the ps2 it's simply darker, you don't even need night vision goggle at any point during the game)
-original level design (xbox oil platform vs ps2 oil platform)
-less slowdown
-more refined HUD
>>
>>376326684

>>
>>376327284
>>376327668

who in their right mind would play the inferior version of the old gen?
>>
>>376321098
Double Agent is worthless unless you're playing the PS2/Xbox version.

Conviction somehow manages to be even worse.

Blacklist is better but after the last two games were shit, Ironside left, and Ubisoft marketed it as an action game, it flopped hard.

As many terrible decisions went into those three games though, I think the one that really irritates me the most was making them so over the top grim and depressing. The first three games were serious but they had a lot of levity to them too, there was some good banter in there between Sam and Grimsdottir as well as Lambert. After Double Agent, the series too itself way too seriously.
>>
The Xbox Heug version of Double Agent was the last good game. The 360/PS3/PC version was the start of the decline.
>>
>>376327668
You are talking about the first game?
>>
>>376327159

You don't have to kill a single soul in Blacklist. But I do agree that Sam is a lot more aggressive.

Yup.

Even though I've played and own all of the Splinter Cell series, Chaos theory just fucking nailed it to the wall.

Double Agent was a bugfest.
Conviction was pretty, but casual mode with that tagging thing - totally removed all reason for me to try to lure someone into the shadows to take them out, when I could just kill everyone in the room and not worry about a corpse finding another corpses body. It's also what I'd call the very last SC game, because without Michael Ironside, who is Sam Fisher but another generic MC?
And then Blacklist, which was fun to play, but no Michael Ironside ->NO FUCKING POINT.

We are talking about Double Agent, here. You mentioned SC1 levels. By the way, you can't emulate the Xbox version, also the visual settings on the PS2 version of Double Agent are dated, but you can still adjust the light settings to make things pitch black, and you do have servicable enough shadows.

Probably not. The CELL was a bitch to program for. It wasn't until late in the generation that multiplats caught up on the PS3 and even then they still were usually not quite up to par.
It's been flipped this current gen though. Granted Scorpio is about to flip it again.

Nice projecting. I give credit where credit is due. The original Xbox version is the best version of the game. If you dontbhave an Xbox then you can emulate the PS2 version, yes, but if you want the best experience the original Xbox has it.

>>376328985
Calm the fuck down, xbot. I don't care if it's slightly better graphics. Everyone knows that xbox had better graphics. No one said it wasn't. Splinter Cell 1 was a 4/5 game with solid mechanics (my personal favourite because nostalgia fag)

Pandora Tomorrow was basically 1 but slightly better and has a great multiplayer. The missions were slightly more interesting but I preferred 1's story.

Chaos Theory is fantastic. It refined the mechanics of the original two and combined it with semi-open levels and great AI (enemies popping flares before wandering off into the darkness blew my mind back then).

DA last-gen was Chaos Theory with a morality system, only it wasn't as well made and you could tell that most of the budget went into making the next gen version. With more time and more money, it could've been the best in the series.

Conviction is a shit Splinter Cell game but a great Jason Bourne game. If they could just replace Sam with Bourne, I'd love it.

Blacklist is okay. Just okay. They tried to pander to both the stealth players and the action players and ended up not truly satisfying either. Thy should've let Sam leave the series with his happy ending and brought in a new protagonist.

they should've had archer and kestrel go their separate ways having qualified as splinter cell agents and one of them becomes the new protagonist with sambert on mission control

emuparaside is the safest bet for console games.
About the emulator, the PCSX2 is the only one but i remember there are more updated versions out there than those released on their website

>play multi-player for the first time
>Brick shitting tension at all times, feel smug as fuck when you successfully outsmart the other guy
>High level play devolves into either running around as a merc with your terminator eye cancer goggles on at all times or jumping off pixels everywhere as a zerg rushing spy to cause instant death to anyone you land on.

Still I have great memories of multi-player. Learning all those little tricks to let you stealth better, the constant paranoia while playing a merc, those panicked moments where someone gets spotted and all hell breaks loose. Haven't played a game like it since.

Fuck that mall map though. Always got lost in it.

I thought conviction was well done. that just me though. everyone else on this board is going to give me shit for this, wait for it.

god damn, i knew early PS3 games looked like garbage in comparison cause no one could code for it but shit.

Conviction was a good game. Not a particularly good stealth game, but a fun Jack Bauer/John Wick simulator.

Also, this was kino

>Blacklist is fucking trash and I hate it.
Am I the only person who thinks this because the controls feel like hot, sweaty, disgusting, man ass compared to any other game in the series?

Even Conviction's controls did not feel so godawful.
>>
>>376347309
I thought the controls were pretty fluid. Could do well with more control over movement speed.
>>
I sorta enjoyed the pc post of the next gen version

Yes. Unless you have OG Xbox, emulate the PS2 version.

Ubisoft is finished with this Franchise.

Hows the multiplayer in each of the games?

Isn't it the only non-open world single player franchise they have left?

I think it suffers for being made from the same engine as AssCreeds, where the movement doesn't really feel like you are moving your character, but you're just directing it towards a general direction.

Having said that, the game was made for you to go fast, you don't really need to do slow precise movements like you would need to in other games.

Yeah, it's the most fun when you're constantly on the run, improvising.
Case in point

All game series die at one point no matter how good they are.

At least Ubi isn't raping the corpse anymore.
