It's a lower resolution than a standard 2017 screen.
But when going for volumes like nintendo, you have to have dedicated pipelines making the screens for your specific specifications, pipelines that do IPS screens.
And apple just can pay a lil extra for those pipelines if they want.

Actually if i'm not mistaken, there was a TSMC chip manufacturing process that apple fucking bought for themselves.
Basically 100% of those pipelines of that process went to apple, end of story.

I think we're selling Mario Kart DS for something like $20.

Nintendo likes to play it frugal and under, rather than over, produce to meet demand. An under production might be a potential lost sale, but if you over produce you're eating the cost of the thing lying around somewhere. It allows them to keep the price where they want it too, without needing to sell them cheaper just to get rid of them.

The Switch has barely just come out and we all know that it takes a Nintendo system a while to spin up, if it does at all. People want to buy new games for their new system, and pickings will be slim for a year at least. If it continues along this arc, though, people will lose interest, and support will not expand, as with the Wii U.

I have every expectation that Switch will do better than the Wii U, but that doesn't mean that all bets are off and everybody will buy anything that's available as soon as it is throughout the whole console cycle. Most of these customers already have other systems.
