There is a 3d mod called Armok Vision, it's still being worked on though.

I'm currently working on a mega-project, I like to build my forts with a story in mind that fits with the world's lore.
I'm trying to build a massive, multi-floor sprawling labyrinth that spans all across my entire fort's map that spans from the surface all the way to the caves and ultimately hell, thus the labyrinth would be filled with all sorts of horrors, with my comfy fort blocked off safely deep in the middle with an emergency route to the surface. The labyrinth is filled with traps and riches.

I just want to create something impressive.

Live mapping to turn DF into a Minecraft like game however, would take too much ressources, the entire game would run at 1 frames every 5 minutes.

What's so fun about controlling a bunch of midgets doing mundane work in a sandbox rts?

Serious question. I never understood the appeal to this game. It's not like old roguelikes or MUDs, to my knowledge it doesn't even have multiplayer.
