I've bought the forgotten expansion and its pretty disappointing.
>There's no more fun voice narration, you now have to read walls of boring text to understand whats going on. This sucks especially when your in combat.
>The ai blows ass now since the maps insist on having way too much vegetation and they can't figure out how to navigate through it.
>I had a level breaking glitch where I couldn't progress since a main character wouldn't speak his lines. This was 2/3rds of the way through the level and honestly fuck playing it over again it was a boring level.

Forgotten is fucking garbage, but it was a different team who make African Kingdoms and the Asian one.

The latter are great, honestly feel almost as good as The Conquerors, interesting civs, new architecture and best of all overhauls of general balance. There are more naval options than just galleys, you can actually use camels now, and the shitty civs like The Franks got buffs just to name a few changes.

I liked the concept of the game but it just feels like they kept adding things with no semblance of balance.

Also I like standard infantry so any game that makes them trash that gets one-shot by everything by end game gets dropped.

I tried playing this buy my little unit's AI kept spazzing out and doing dumb shit. I much prefer Rise of Nations where your units actually line up properly based on their class. Just wish that one had a more structured campaign.

The new expansions DO have voice narration, and the maps are made with a more classic style. The Forgotten was literally amateur campaigns.

Are the HD AoE expansions legit good or just shameless cash grabs?

They're not on the same scale as The Conquerors, but I think they're actually pretty good for what they are and help make the game more fresh.

The Forgotten however is definitely the weakest one because it was formerly a mod, and despite some tweaks like giving the Indians a nice architecture set, it still shows through in its campaigns.
