i did it a couple of times to try out some games that didn't seem like they were worth paying for or the time to play even

But eventually I started moving towards Steam and GoG because it was easier to manage my games that way.

Meh. I used to pirate the occasional random single-player game that I doubt I'll play more than once, but ever since the Steam refund thing came around I haven't really needed to pirate anything. I do end up refunding a fair amount of games, but most games tend to be overhyped as hell, or are early access piles of shit that end up being far less enjoyable than they promise.

Plus, I have quite a bit more spare money to throw around on games, mainly because of how most games have become stale, unoriginal piles of shit.

I'm uncomfortable with making online or offline transactions. It feels bothersome and drains me to some degree. Pirating doesn't have that effect. Pirated games just tend to be limited in some features.
The question I find myself facing whenever I want a game is whether the extra features are worth the emotional investment of making a purchase. So basically, if I can't bring myself to make the expense, I'll pirate because it's a canoe alternative.

I have no moral qualms about pirating. I do not believe I'm hurting the devs, so pirating comes to me naturally. It's more about whether it is worth the effort to pirate the game, since in some cases, frequent updates can make pirating require much more effort than simply buying the game.

One of those copies leaks online and 20K people download it.
They are not losing money where production is concerned, they already got a return on investment. They could have sold those 20K, true, but they weren't taken from their stockpile and therefore, not stolen. Someone repackaged it and made it free.

DRM is known to cripple games and it gets BTFO at every turn. If someone were to burn a backup copy or theit DRM-less game, would it be a crime? I'ma pie rat sometimes, depends on the situation. I buy games also (this is primarily how I get games lately), even feel for pre order hype on occasion.

Nowadays I'll pirate to avoid the bullshit that goes with the invasive, aggressive DRM. Like I'll get THAT frustrated at a game that forced their crap on me that shows a game, causes errors and generally kills my joy in an attempt to thwart people who didn't pay for THEIR copy. Ex:Uplay games, Origin, some games on steam. Diablo 3 was terrible with that, I can't even play my legit copy of Just Cause 3 without the always online garbage fucking up my play. It's then that I question "who does this really protect?" & the answer, not often than not is people only tangentially connected with the game I want to play. Some banker it backer doesn't get 85% of what I payed? Boo hoo.

Is there a way to get my hands on the original Fatal Frame that doesn't involve just getting an old one off of Ebay? Tomba 2? Way of the Samurai? Frankly, it seems like the old games I actually care about are the ones that are no longer readily accessible.

I've pirated lewd japanese games before I got paypal since I couldn't buy them otherwise, now some are still worth a wank but not even remotely worth the price, if I've already purchased a game for another platform I'll pirate for pc, cawadoods since singleplayer is kind of amusing but not enough to justify buying it (if there was no piracy I would just ignore it anyway), and if they do something particularly jewish (like metro last light locking fucking difficulties behind dlc)
