The Rune Factory series is fucking awesome. It is a spin off of Harvest Moon, and includes everything those games do, but also combat and RPG mechanics.

In the first Rune Factory game, you play the typical Harvest Moon style story of moving into a small village, become a farmer, fight monsters, clear dungeons, get married, and have a kid.

Then, in the second half of the game your main character disappears, and you have to play as your child, growing up in the village, and later attempting to learn how to fight and rescue your father. You continue playing the post game as that character, too.
