>>
Depends on performance as to whether I get the 1180 or the 1180Ti.

I'm looking to get rid of SLI and just have a single GPU nail 120+ FPS at 1440p reliably.
>>
I dunno, the third party coolers always just look like FANS FANS FANS Edgy LED's!

Always look really ugly, the reference cards always look sexy
>>
>>376289125
Dude definitely the 1180Ti will be capable of single card 4k 144hz at ultra settings, cards are getting more powerful and graphics are plateauing HARD
>>
>>376289003
A probable prediction.

I'm actually really hyped for Volta
>>
>>376289257
We'll see. Lots of games are still coming out poorly optimized AF so I'm not too sure. For now the 980s are doing well with solid titles like Battlefield but others I have to really dial back shit just to hit 80s.
>>
I'm poor and stupid so i've been thinking about building this pls help. most of the games I play don't need a supercomputer
https://au.pcpartpicker.com/guide/FsgXsY/entry-level-gaming-build
>>
>Then buy the 1180ti in 6 months
Thanks for the shekels goys.
>>
If the gap between Pascal and Volta is as large as the gap between Maxwell and Pascal, I'm upgrading to an 1170. I have a 1070 and a 144hz 1440p monitor. It would be nice to be able to play all games maxed out at 144fps. The 1070 is on par with the 980ti, so if the 1170 is on par with the 1080ti, I'm hyped as fuck.

Although I doubt that will be the case. Maxwell to Pascal was 28nm to 16/14nm (the 1050 and 1050ti are 14nm, the rest are 16nm), while Pascal to Volta is going to be 16/14nm to 12nm... So not the biggest process shrink, most of the performance improvements are going to be from architectural changes, which is going to be a lot since Nvidia has been planning Volta for a long time. In fact they originally planned to have it come after Maxwell, but they decided to put out Pascal (basically die shrunk Maxwell at higher clock speeds) to give them more time on Volta.
>>
Planning to build new PC once the 1180ti gets released.
>>
>>376290010
>https://au.pcpartpicker.com/guide/FsgXsY/entry-level-gaming-build

I suggest getting a 120 gig ssd, you can get the sandisk one at bestbuy for like 40 bucks, as it's only used to the OS and a few apps, not games and not movie etc

I suggest getting the 1050ti for 100-150 and you can get a seagate 1tb 7200 rpm hdd for like 54 bucks on amazon much better deal
>>
>>376290480
Ryzen? Coffee Lake?
>>
>>376290754
Will see, but probably gonna stick with intel.
>>
>>376290563
120GB is nothing these days anon, i have 240 and keep running out of space. Though i suppose it's enough if not used for games. Which leads me to the question why the fuck wouldn't you use SSD for games?
>>
>2018
Nigga, fuck no, I have a 760 right now and I'm waiting for Volta, if that's coming in 2018, what do I buy right now?
>>
>>376291149
Depends on how frugal you are. When my SSD starts to fill up I just move any games I'm not currently playing over to the HDD.
>>
>>376292824
Depends on your budget and the resolution and framerate of your monitor.
>>
>>376289003
Jesus, why all these cards come out so fast
>>
>>376293179
i dunno

No new card breaking game had come out in a few years like the old Crysis series did

i still have a 980 and get 60 fps on most new games. What the hell would i need a 1180 for?
>>
>>376289003
I'll wait for the 1280, thanks
>>
>>376293179
>Jesus, why all these cards come out so fast
This is nothing new.
>>
>>376289257
This is not even true.

GPU tech is soon going to plateau due to quantum tunneling.
>>
>>376293305
That's how I am feeling to. I still have my 980ti and games run fine atm.
>>
>>376291149
Because I care more about the OS loading up load times in games is fast enough with a good processor and lots of ram, don't need a SSD for that, why waste the money. ONLY needs it for the OS, everything else, offload onto a big HDD
>>
>>376294027
Unless they improve how games are rendered on screen using multiple processors doing dedicated jobs, imagine a GPU for lighting, a gpu for physics, a gpu for polygons etc all on the same PCB in a single card
>>
>>376294139

>A +500$ card run the games fine

No shit.
I have a 980 and i still didn't installed a game who would be worth the upgrade.

I'm not even sure the next gen of consoles will change something
>>
>>376289003
gtx 2080 fuckwad

http://wccftech.com/nvidia-pascal-volta-gpu-leaked-2017-2018/
>>
>>376294435
What if we stopped using polygons and went with point clouds etc.
>>
The 1070 cost me something like $600 AUD, I'm not buying a new card til this fucking thing only runs games on minimum spec
>>
>>376296554
>2080
So they'll have to reset the number again when they reach 9080? What the fuck nvidia
>>
When the heckasaurus keks are they going to focus on software optimization? You do realise that we don't even need this new hardware all the time if patching and devs built games around popular hardware instead of the newest shit.
>>
>>376297603
But then nothing would drive the industry and everything would stagnate.
>>
>>376297665
Drive what industry? The jewvidia one? Games would actually be good if sorftware was optimised around hardware that is used by a majority of gamers. Games don't need hardware industry...
>>
>>376297778
So what would have happened if they decided that the psx/N64 era was good enough and stopped improving there?
>>
>>376297863
That hardware actually lasted half a decade or more and the games were engineered for the hardware. So you prove my point nicely.
One reason games are so shit and buggy now is because optimization is impossible since the user base has too many different pieces of hardware. It's not about lazy devs it's about money to optimize for such a huge user base of different hardware.
>>
>>376298120
The xbone and PS4 command the point of optimization, and frankly it's shit because they make the game fit in a fucking Blu-ray and call it a day so every single fucking game is 50 gbs now.
>>
Wait, there's already a 1180 coming out?
>>
>>376289138
Why does it matter what a component on the inside of your computer looks like?
>>
>>376299297
It matters if you're doing one of those rig competitions where you make the best looking pc.
>>
>>376299297
Since cases come with a side window. Even mobos have RGB lighting now.
>>
No window and a shit ton of noise dampening foam > dumb window showing off your shitty RGBs.
>>
>>376299449

>>
Nah, I already have a 1070.
If I were to upgrade, it wouldn't be any time soon, that's for sure.
Talking minimum 3 hardware renewals from now.
>>
Eh... when we hit Volta, maybe.
1070 currently.
>>
I only upgrade when RAM architecture changes. SO once every 5 years or so.
>>
>>376301082
>buying a 10080 when the 100080 is only 10 years away
>>
>just got a 1070
>countless new gpus already in the making

how fucked am i considering i'm not planning to go over 1080 and 60fps? How much time can my gpu last before an upgrade? I'm fairly new to this pc gaming thing, been a consolefag since the nes.
>>
Apart from ppl with a 4k screen, why the fuck would you buy a new gpu?
The few new games released don't require so much performance, since they are made for consoles.
>>
No, my PS4 is good enough for everything gaming related.
>>
We might get Volta in late 2017 on 16nm, but i doubt it due to AMD being shitty & Nvidia doesn't have to compete
>>
>>376302823
well if a person still has a old gpu the upgrade is valid, I went from a 650ti to a 1070 and it was totally worth it.

There will be a a new series announcement in Q3 or Q4 this year from Nvidia and AMD. So expect high-end buyfags to get salty in a few months.
>>

AMD Vega has a confirmed release date no later than June.
Nvidia Volta is not coming before 2018. If Nvidia releases anything this year, it's Pascal refresh.
>>
>>376304091
get a bigger hard drive 2 or 3tb depending on how huge the price jump is and stronger power supply

maybe an 850W depending on how much you want to futureproof your rig, maybe bump it up to 900W if the price difference isnt too big.

Question about wattage I've been running pic related on a 520 watt PSU and I've been fine. I just upgraded and got a 1080 and an i7 6700k with 32 gigs of ram and a new SSD. Literally building it right now in my room actually. I bought a 700 watt PSU. Is this too small?

>>

So yes, 700w is fine, overkill even
>>
>>376305565
yes, but so can most GPUs in most games. Don't fall for the "you need X GPU for Y resolution" meme.
>>
>>376305594

The next gen of consoles won't be released until 2019

>Why waste the money
Yeah why waste the money on a quad core CPU
Why waste money on more than 4GB of RAM
Why waste the money on a 1TB HDD when you can get a 320GB for less
Why waste the money on a good GPU for gaming
Cheaper components is not only n not a good idea in the areas that matter and directly affect performance, it's also a shitty value proposition, as most cheaper parts like smaller SSDs or lesser GPU/CPUs don't offer performance equivalent to the cost, you end up wasting money trying to save it by getting much less performance when all you saved was a paltry amount in comparison.

An SSD is a prime example of this too, a 240GB SSD will usually run about 30% higher in cost as compared to a 120GB, yet offers 100% more capacity, sure it costs more but you're getting more than what you paid for it in comparison to that tiny ass drive, and if you're going to compromise so hard that you're trying to shave off $20 here or $30 there, then you're just going to end up screwing the build over. Get a cheap case, relatively cheap PSU that's 80+ certified or better, a solid SSD and HDD combo, and cheap out on peripherals like a mouse and keyboard that can be upgraded later, shit skimp on the monitor if you have to as long as you can hit 1080p. Cutting corners where it hurts not only doesn't make sense but you're literally burning money for the sake of saving it due to lost value.

Also I'm aware the anon said he's poor and doesn't need a supercomputer, but the point still holds true that a 240GB SSD offers much better value for a very low cost increase, and it's hardly an effort to reach for or an attempt by me to push him towards high end standards. I had a 240GB myself for the longest time and it was a fucking godsend for games like Siege and modern fuckhuge games where you can legitimately get bitched at for having others have to wait for your slow ass HDD to load games. And I fucking love my 1TB SSD

>>376307375
>tfw putting BF1 on my 240 gb ssd

>>
>Yeah why waste the money on a quad core CPU
This is a completely valid question, who the fuck would buy a quad core CPU these days with DX12 and Vulkan at a literal arms reach?
>b-but those w-won't be used for games for y-years
Vulkan is apart of Unreal now, so you can bet your ass it's going to be used.
>bbut nobody used directx11 or 10 for years
because there was no reason to, the features it added were fucking stupid and shitty, DX12 actually has a reason to exist.
>>
>>376307506
>BF4 with all the DLC
Fucker clocked in at 120GB by itself but goddamn if I didn't load into every match within 20 seconds
>>
>>376307535
Sure makes sense to cheap out now and not be able to play vidya until games developed with dx12 might maybe come out in 3 years
>>
>>376289003
Don't do either of these, because these are paper launches with restricted supply. It was four months before you could find a 1070 that wasn't jacked $80 above MSRP.
>>
>>376289003
>buying reference cards

Isn't that usually a shitty decision?
>>
You may as well wait for the 1180ti if you're gonna wait that long and at that point why not just wait for the 1280 and by then 1280ti is right around the corner etc.
>>
>>376308070
3.5 gbs the return when?
>>
>>376307839
>games developed with dx12 might maybe come out in 3 years
Maybe, but Vulkan on the other hand is supported and is a setting in every worthwhile engine.
