Because it's bland, tedious, and Okumura is not a compelling antagonist in the slightest. The whole place feels like a slog, and the game doesn't do much to instill a sense of urgency - Haru, a character we've only just met (or rather, has been forced into the group dynamic), is to be sold off, and the Phantom Thieves have literally nothing else going for them than "muh shitty adults." There's no real setup, and even less payoff.

It doesn't help that it is immediately preceded by Ryuji and Morgana at their most insufferable, and that sense of irritation permeates the entire dungeon. It truly is the low-point of the game in every respect. Luckily, it happens to be followed by the Casino, which happens to be the best palace in the game, bar-none.

I'm up to Madarame Uchiha and he honestly does not compare. Framing devise Sae said he was worse, not even close.

Anyways, Kamoshida was great, but namely it was because they devoted the first portion of the game to him to explain game mechanics. At several points, you were sharing rows with him as they introduced both Ryuji's and Ann's persona. Flipside is, they couldn't do it for every Palace because then it would have been dialogue hell, even more than it was at times.

On another hand, probably two or three of the palaces were simply chosen because they were good targets--the emotional attachment only came after the fact.

I didn't hate it but it seemed like the first palace that was honestly trying to fuck you out of time and force you to do it in multiple days. It had a lot of strenuous gimmicks and enemies that were there just to get you to burn out on SP.

I liked the boss though, it was the first one where I had to go back and plan everything out to hit full baton pass chains each turn. Felt really rewarding to beat him.

The real issue with the later palaces is the little shit that was in the first two is missing.

Kamoshide had hidden rooms and routes. And in his hidden room you had hidden parts of his psyche.

Akechi worked because he had this whole nice guy vibe but would occasionally drop really sinister comments into your conversations with him.

Looking back on it, it was pretty easily telegraphed. He worms his way into your friendship group despite the PC trying to keep him out and his Metaverse costume has no dark aspects to it whatsoever, which instantly makes him stand out.

Also, in the start game menu, he's hiding behind a pillar instead of standing in the open.

I thought the whole point of Akechi was that he WAS super obvious as the traitor, from his design, the way the plot involves him and his dialogue, but the twist is that the Protags realised it as well as the players were supposed too. It's one, of many, references to classic Great Thief fiction that the game plays. Such as having several death fake outs of main characters near the end, or the palaces all being classic thievery places.

Also ambushing makes no sense you can walk directly at them face to face and you get an ambush but if you do it from behind sometimes its a regular battle

I had to stop playing this game with remote play during story dungeons because of that delay. Ambushes are braindead easy normally but just that fraction of a second is startlingly deadly. Remote play was still a blessing for confidants and Mementos though.

Honestly while I understand the theme of the game and its villains, I am a little disappointed, I just expected something more.....mystical? Eldritch? Otherworldly?

Using personas to brainwash shitty human beings is not exactly what I was expecting from P5, I guess I just wanted to bash demon faces and have a great adventure like in strange journey/digital devil saga, something more fun than dealing with shitty human beings behaving like shitty human beings.

Have you played other Persona games? Even when heavy otherworldly elements are included, it's always been about the people in the end. I actually thought that P5 could have done without the otherworldly elements going through the roof in the final act and ending with something slightly more grounded and personal.

There's always SMT and other spinoffs for things like batshit crazy demon slaying, as you described.
