Powerlevels were the worst thing to happen to DBZ. Honestly I am glad Super is kind of fixing them. 17 being on par with SSB is stupid, but again it becomes boring when the winner of a fight is the one with the higher powerlevel.

The show is introducing techniques again, and actual martial arts skill. I personally think Super is better than anything post android saga anyway. Course that is not saying much, Cell-Buu saga was shit for the most part.

It started out that way, but after the redirection of frieza arc it decides to just say fuck it to preconceived notions of power. For example there is a fighter who lacks power but can strike vital areas with each hit as well as freeze time for a split second. This allows him to fight on par with bullshit power levels

Dragonball series that initially takes place 6 months after Buu is defeated, but time skips so much that it's impossible to keep track of.
Power levels are an inconsistent nightmare when you have stuff like Goku and Beerus punching each other so hard that planets blow up. And Goku gains the ability to heal wounds but never uses it.
Every fight they get in ends with both sides saying "I was holding back the whole time"
Frieza comes back and it's really bad. Looks like he's coming back again pretty soon.
Animation is dogshit most of the time and writing is even worse.
The only new and actually evil villain in the series so far was Evil Goku, but he's legitimately the best character introduced so far.

Tien is definitely stronger than anyone on Namek but the Tri-Beam didn't do anything to Cell, it just kept him down in the hole for a while.
It's not really a super strong move, it just has a lot of force behind it.

The evil containment wave could also lock away King Piccolo even though he was definitely the strongest creature on earth at the time.
