is ps3 compatible with ps1 and ps2

PS2 - Yes, the Fat model is.
PS1 - No.
>>
>>376280875
PS1 yes either physical or digital.
PS2 only Fat 20 and 60 GB can do physical. Slim and Super Slim have to deal with digital only.
>>
>>376281038
couldent they release a system update
>>
>>376281149
No system update can make a PS2 disk read on the slim or super slim since there's no emotion engine chip on those models.
>>
>>376280875
Only the older 60gb fat models which are expensive and mostly worn down in some cases
>>
>>376281273
what
>>
OP are you from the past?
>>
DON'T BUY A PS3 TO PLAY PS2 GAMES. THE BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE MODELS ARE UNRELIABLE.

Buy a PS3 Slim for $100 or less. There are PS2 games you can buy on the Store that work great and more than make up for the console.

If you really need a PS2 for something like Silent Hill, buy a PS2 for $50.

>>
>>376281770

ps3 is backwards compatible? how the fuck did i not know this
>>
>>376281770
Most models you'll find will have a 500GB hard drive, which is plenty unless you're going to try to install custom firmware on the thing.
>>
>>376280875
Like said, the old RELEASE versions, aka "Fat" ones, are the only ones that have PS2 backwards compatibility.

Every single PS3 version, even the Super Slim, runs PS1 discs.

>>376281273
Sony already cut physical E.E. from the European 60Gb fat versions, and they do run PS2 games via official emulation. It's not perfect obviously, and some titles just don't work on it, but it's better than nothing.

Earlier Slim versions with custom firmware can be modified to have said emulation software too.

>>376281705
I always see this shit everywhere, yet my old 60GB Fat I got in 2007 still runs fine.

>>376282117
You apparently don't lurk enough.

>>376281770
instead of worrying about GBs, think what form factor and functions you want.

I'd recommend normal Slim. They're robust and good middleground version.
>>
>>376280949
What? You're retarded. Every PS3 will take ps1 discs, and has digital versions.

Only the OG ps3 can play ps2 discs though.

For many/most people that's not the case. Don't tell people to make a stupid, preventable mistake.

Its not a nintendo switch so no

If you wanna play PS2 that bad just get an original PS2 and shove Free MCboot up the ass. Is very easy.

I'd say people should learn that modern consoles are like PCs, and require maintenance.

My Fat started to keep awful noise few years ago. Took it out of the cramped TV stand shelf, and it got instantly better. I even ordered one of those Phillips screwdrivers couple years ago, opened the sucker up, and cleansed the gathered dust out of its innards.
>>
>>376282660
Most people don't want to perform that kind of physical maintenance on their game consoles.
>>
>>376281038
Certain 60gb models can't run PS2 games.

Certain 80gb models(aka the MGS4 bundle one) can run PS2 games.

The best way to tell is to check if it has 4usb ports.

Any fat PS3 with 4 usb ports will run PS2 games

Any fat PS3 with 2 USB ports will not.
>>
>>376282837
That instantly explains most of the major failures of all systems in the past decade.

Long gone are the sealed systems with passive cooling grills doing good enough job, modern systems have tons of delicate and moving parts that can fail. Better start educating ignorant masses before it's too late.
>>
>>376282837
Well then people that want to own a current gen console are fucked. You absolutely need to at least dust out your system every few months or so.
