So why do people always say get physical instead of digital?

So why do people always say get physical instead of digital?
PS store has sales, so why would I buy full price physical when I could get it for cheaper on a digital sale?
I just bought Nier:Automata for $42 when I would have spent $60 for a physical copy
>>
>>376267439
Kill yourself, cuck.
>>
>>376267439
I have always prefered physical for memory space reasons and being able to play offline.

However, I haven't bought physical in like 3 years because I share my library with my brother. We both have access to more games and we only have to purchase a game once to play together.
>>
>>376267439
There is good and bad to both of them. If something ever happens to your account you lose everything digital, but physical discs can be broken easily as well. Always go with the cheapest option imo
>>
These bait threads get more and more retarded

Or maybe its really underaged mouthbreathers
>>
>>376267439
And I'm going to get the same game for 20 bucks used in a month or 2.
Enjoy being ripped off
>>
>>376267439
Because PSN gets one good sale a year and this is it man
>>
>>376267439
I think people just really like knowing they've got a physical copy of the game and it's not going away because of any server or internet bullshit.
The price differential between physical and digital is insane though, especially here in Australia. Games I see for like 50-60 dollars in EB Games are regularly on sale on PSN for like 25 didgeridollars.
>>
>>376267439
P.T.
>>
>>376267439
You can always sell your physical copy and get some of your money back
>>
>Tfw you have to get Odin Sphere via digital because the physical version won't get a fucking price drop
>>
Used to be for memory.

But the PS4 requires most games be installed anyway even if you have physical.

So, for the PS4's case, it's either or.
>>
>>376267439
Collecting, insurance for when online disappears, and I typically buy collector's for the extras
>>
>>376267910
Being able to lend a game to a friend is a huge boon too.
>>
There's something else about owning a physical disk as opposed to a digital title. It's more satisfying to have. Unfortunately, prices here for physical games are pretty much double, if not tripled, digital games that are on sale.
>>
eBay.
>>
>>376267916
>Preordered game on canadian amazon back when amazon was good
>30% off every video games
That collector edition was the best thing I bought in years.
Shame Amazon is going full jew now
>>
Honestly because physical is nice, it retains some form of value, and it is generally cheaper.
You say you bought nier for 42 but I could go to a store right now and get it for 30.
I fucking hate that I went all digital for my vita, especially since you can pirate everything now.
>>
>buy game 1
>fiend buy game 2
>plat game 1, friend do the same with game 2
>borrow game 1 to friend
>plat it, friend do same
>give back game and repeat with game 3 and 4
>>
>>376267439
70% of the time physical is cheaper and you can actually exchange something physical for something else if you choose to do so unlike digital.
>>
>>376268390
OP here
I guess I just haven't bought many games recently since most of the games I've bought recently have just been on sale on PS Store so I kind of forgot used even existed, don't they change the case for used copies though? The satisfaction of owning a physical copy kind of dissapears for me if it has that retarded used case
>>
>>376268325
You can do this with digital too
>>
Physical is still cheaper if you don't buy games at launch. I'm nearly done with my PS3 backlog, still don't have a new gen console. Even then there are only a handful of games I look forward to playing on PS4. I only buy digital for games I can't find physically or huge sales.
>>
I bought Nier for $50 from Bestbuy using a gamer's club account, after finishing it I sold it for $27 and used that to buy Persona 5.
>>
>>376267439
>Because then I can lend it out to friends
>PSN sales aren't as good compared to when it first came out especially plus
>Steam does everything better digitally
>>
>>376267439
How are you enjoying that digital version of Puyo Puyo Tetris and Project PT?
Oh wait
>>
>>376268618
is not the same
>>
I lend games I finish to friends and vice versa. It's win-win
>>
>>376268560
The value of psychical has gone down in recent years. Even in the 7th gen we got bare-bones manuals but I don't think 8th gens even offer that much. Correct me if I'm wrong since I don't own a new console. Feels like discs are just authentications to download a full game now.
>>
>>376268784
Puyo released physically though.
>>
>>376267439
>So why do people always say get physical instead of digital?
Because they're fucking retarded thinking EULAs magically don't apply to them or that their online based physical disc will magically work when the online feature goes away
>>
>>376268797
In some cases it's better. If you trade primary accounts, you can play one copy/liscense at the same time and don't actually have to physically meet to play each other's games.
>>
Its more of a case of would you rather:
>Wait for a 10gb patch to download
Or
>Wait for a 50gb game to download + 10gb patch

The one thing that annoys me about this generation of games is the excessive file sizes.
>>
>>376268685
/thread
>>
>>376269086
They'll then think that trading a game for 10% their original buy in is worth the massive loss and how its some advantage like turning in a car at a dealership or something.
>>
>>376268094
You do realize that you can game share if you bought it digitally right? You both can play the game at the same time
>>
>>376267660
1. physical takes up the same amount of memory space as digital these days. Game disks only serve to install and verify that you still own the game. Been this way the entire gen.

2. You can play offline with a digital copy so long as you were the one that bought the game. If you gameshare and the other person bought the game, THEN you have to be online to access it.
>>
>>376267439
Tbqh digital is the only thing I impulse buy nowadays. Physical sales just aren't good enough. When was the last time you saw a too good to pass up price on bestbuy or amazon?
>>
>>376268685

>online based physical disk
Wut? Do you mean the day one patch some games have or will PS4 games just refuse to launch if you aren't online?
>>

Yeah, it's basically that. Thats how i got all the CoD from a friend lol
>>

What are you talking about?
I put the disk in and play the game
No installing no nothing
Fuck are you saying
>>
>>376269585
Where the physical disk just contains a script to download the game or some product code that activates to download the game. The disk doesn't actually let you do anything and contains virtually no data
>>
>>376269673
Name one game like this on the PS4
>>
I have the Playstation card that gives me 10x points when I buy on PSN store, so I'll do that when a sale is good. But I'll still buy physical if the price points are close, on preference.
>>
>points
>>
>>376267439
When your console or PSN dies, the physical games will stay alive in your collection.

Buying digital is paying for a pirate and irrelevant copy of a game.
>>
>>376269882
>a credit card that only gives you points towards their store only when you buy games from their store
>>
>>376269971

I don't see how my digital copy of skyrim will stop working if steam dies or bethesda dies

>>376270274
wew doesn't affect me on PC then
>>
>>376268797
You can literally and figuratively play all the games with your bro if you share accounts, even multiplayer games

That's what I do, recently I bought Nier and he bought Persona 5.
>>
>>376267439
Nier is a pretty fun game, but the current sale is absolute TRASH. 20$+ for almost everything, and a ton of stuff in the 17$ range that has gone for cheaper. I might still buy nep VII because I missed the black friday sale when it was less than 9$, but that's for different reasons.

That said, my rule of thumb with digital is to only buy digital if there is a very steep discount over a physical copy, as close to 66% as possible. You have less freedom with the product, and have to use your own bandwidth and time to download it, and it costs less to distribute.
>>
>>376270309
>I don't see how my digital copy of skyrim will stop working if steam dies or bethesda dies

Because you have it on steam
try starting skyrim without having steam turned on
Won't work retard

>wew doesn't affect me on PC then

Yes it does
>>
>>376270309

You don't have unlimited storage. Either you have 10 gb worth of patches per physical game or 60 gb per digital game.

People like physical collections. Also once upon a time games had "instruction manuals" and were a good read with nice art and useful tips. Reselling is also a good way to save physical space and get games cheaper.

The advantages of digital: game sharing, no physical commitment, convenience. You can also safely hide your power level if need be.

I do both because I'm older and have gotten over the physical collection thing. I'm also nomadic so maybe that's why.

TLDR: do whatever. It's situational. Only virgins complain about not owning a disc
>>
>>376270217
Why? Nothing wrong with selling stuff you don't use, instead of having a game gathering dust you use it to help buy other game you haven't played yet. Not everyone is into collecting videogames, some people just want to play them.
>>
>>376267439
Well OP, Walmart.com is selling the physical copy for 44.99 with free 2 day shipping.
>>
>>376270728
>>376270646
I'm a PC and I don't care
>>
>>376269673
That doesn't exist for consoles as far as I know.
>>
>>376269971
I have GameCube discs that were fine when I had them, but had the disc art start to flake/vein, which is a bad thing. My copy of Twin Snakes literally has two snake-like air bubble/veins running along the top of each disc. They work, but I'm sure somewhere along the way the game will freeze.
>>
I used to be all physical but digital is pretty convenient when you can turn on your PS4 and play any game you want without putting in discs. I don't buy physical copies of movies or music anymore so I'm doing the same with games.
>>
I've been leaning digital for convenience's sale but I haven't chosen a path for the switch yet. Digital was a no brainer on PS4 and I usually do physical on the 3ds except for eShop only games or significant savings. Anyone with a switch got 2 cents for me?
>>
>>376271989
You should have protected better your games covering them with some kind of plastic.

I need to find something to protect my 3DS games too, sometimes bugs left dirty stuff on the boxes and its hard to clean.
>>
>>376272163
Switch doesn't have any games yet so you have time to think it over, don't worry. But really, just get whatever is cheapest.
>>
>>376270880
are you retarded ?
>>
>>376269812
>>376271827
There's one game I can think of that does this, THPS5. That game was also a complete mess so I highly doubt anyone else will follow in their footsteps.
>>
I liked physical more, but in this age digital sales are too good. I haven't got a single physical game in like 3 years, my backlog its so big I don't play games until 1 or 2 years after release so I just wait and get them for $15 or less on a sale. Also I used to resale and trade games but I don't have time for that anymore.
>>
I have data caps, stuck getting physical regardless because every game this gen went from 8gb to 50gb.

You can't gameshare on PS4 like PS3 so digital is pointless

Physical games drop in prices quicker than waiting for psn sales.

I got nier for 30 3 weeks after release
>>
>>376267439
I only get physical if it's a new release that I'm really really interested in and buying day 1. If it's some game that I feel like playing and it's on sale, digital is fine.
>>
>>376270683
I remember there being 6months no interest on big ticket items. I got it a few years ago to buy a camera lens but I really haven't used it much since.

>>376267910
I had to learn this the hard way.

>>
>>376269671

This reminds me of how gta 3 through San Andreas would just get destroyed purely by playing them. I don't remember if I read recently that the ps2 tray was just shittily set up or something but I know I went through multiple copies of every gta game prior to 4 and 5 no matter how well I tried to take care of them.
>>
>>376273306
just delete any of your physical games, insert the disc and it will get installed again.

>why buy physical instead of digital

Because PSN and SONY is retarded as fuck. I got banned for a week for hate speech (calling people niggers on NBA2K17 and no I'm not racist, I'm black myself). For that entire week my account was banned I didn't have access to PS+ Plus nor did I have access to ANY of my downloaded games. And that was just for a week, so imagine if your account gets banned permanently? You mean to tell me that hundreds-to-thousands of dollars can all be whisked away just like that? This right there is the ONLY reason I still buy physical. If something is on sale or cheaper digital than buying physical or it's digital only then I'll buy it, otherwise I'll go physical.

>inb4 just don't be racist or get banned

Faggot your account can be banned or suspended or anything. Hell I've heard stories of people being hacked and buying shit on their account, their credit card or bank charges it back and SONY bans their account until they pay them back for the charge back. So even in a case where you did absolutely nothing wrong you can still get fucked over, which is why only an idiot would go FULL DIGITAL.
