Do you think Sora is a well-written character?

Yeah, he's just a 14/15 year old kid after all. He doesnt pout, is eager, and enjoys kicking ass. That's all a series like KH needs in a disney hero.

He's a little edgy in KH2, mouthing off Organization members and murdering them with little sympathy, citing how they're heartless abominations that aren't even supposed to exist. Then 3D reveals that they had hearts all along and welp.

For some reason in KH3D they also chose to completely revert him back to early KH1 levels of naivete, which felt like a huge whiplash compared to his character in KH2.

Say what you will about KH's clusterfuck of a story, but it's biggest strength is the characters that are involved in it. I honestly can't think of one that I legitimately hate or would have removed from canon

He's a cheery, happy-go-lucky guy tasked with saving the universe, which is simple, but ultimately inoffensive. Though they took the happy-go-luckiness a bit far in 3D. Hoping they'll tone it back down in 3.

KH2, Quite flanderised, most of the above characteristics are ramped up to 10, any hint of cynicism or pessimism has been erased and he is a super positive character who vanquishes everything with the power of friendship, naive and gullible.

The main problem with KH2 sora is that he's not the same character as was in the first game, if anything the above characterisation should be backwards with an older sora being slightly less naive and a little more cynical. The main issue is that when they decided to make KH a franchise they decided to make Sora a clear cut hero as opposed to the somewhat normal kid he was in the first game.

I actually noticed that the first game actually feels like the darkest of the franchise since its characters aren't so clearly defined and flanderised, the environments and aesthetics have a much darker colour palette as well. Somehow the franchise has became much lighter than the original game it originated with, i'd chalk this down to expanding appeal and trying to keep it mainstream to appeal to people who buy into the concept and not the game. The amount of people who like the characters and designs but have never played the game are strangely disproportionate

adding to this Sora did use "the power of friendship" in the first kingdom hearts but it felt more sincere and learned since he actually disagreed with donald and goofy at times, the game felt as though he grew as a character and matured as the story progressed so that when he takes back the keyblade and defeats Rikku because he realises that his friends are his strength it doesn't feel like as much of an asspulll as it does in the other games Sora appears in as he actually has friendship struggles. In later games feels like sora's friends are so blindly devoted to him that he could do anything and they'd not complain.

I imagine most of the people playing KH are at least in their twenties anyway who were fans of the previous titles. The story isn't exactly friendly to newcomers to begin with.
