If you plan to play melee it's not really an option, otherwise you are going to get tons of input lag. Other games are going to look kinda bad, but playable.

Spend $500 for component cables.

get an adaptor for GC controller and play on dolphin

don't think that'll work, an upscaler might be want you want but they do look shitty, but composite already looks shitty

No, buy a framemiester before they go extinct.

A rundown even?
>>
>>376260869
You need an active RCA/RGB to HDMI else you will have shitload of problems.
>>
>>376260869
That won't do what you think.
The red, blue and green of component cables are all for video. The red and white of composite is for audio.

If you have an older gamecube, it may have a port for component cables. So you could do what your image suggests.

You'll get a laggy experience nomatter what, though.

You are better off with Dolphin.
>>
Get some component cords instead and get a female component to HDMI box. If your monitor scales well (it probably doesn't) get one of those 30 dollar boxes. If it scales SD content like dogshit (likely) get a 100-200 dollar box that handles scaling to 1080p and the conversion.

Not him, but my mom threw out a nice CRT I had while I was in university. I learnt to emulate instead.

My recommendation is to hack a Wii and play Gamecube games on it in high definition. When you emulate (by console, is there GC PC emulator?) you can increase resolution substantially.

if you're trying to play melee at locals and such I wouldn't recommend it

if you're just using it to play gamecube games in general it'll work alright
>>

If you have money to spend get a frameister.

So it sounds like what I proposed in my OP image would work, it just won't look good.
I could do that for seven bucks.

With a homebrew app such as USB Loader GX, you can play Gamecube games downloaded off an SD card.
>>
get an old wii and this thing

480p with no lag, just have to mess with your monitor's settings to compensate for the gamma
>>
>>376260869

Are you a meleefag who cares about a fraction of a fraction of a second being off due to lag? If so you are a faggot AND doing it wrong. For everyone that just wants to play Maruo Sunshine or Eternal Darkness you're fine.
>>
>>376260869
This will only look like shit and is the most garbage way to play the Gamecube. You have multiple choices here:

1) easiest solution is buy a Wii. The Wii component cables are cheap and it will play compatible GC games in progressive scan mode automatically.

2) Get a CRT at a flea market or off the side of the road somewhere

3) Find a website that'll mod your Gamecube to have an HDMI mod. A few places do this, and the mod is less than $150, if memory serves right

4) Go full autist and blow the $300 to get the gamecube official component cables for the purest experience.

It's something like 200-400ms. That's pretty noticeable in any action game.
>>
>>376262476
You didn't understand OP.
That HDMI to RCA cable in you image does nothing.
HDMI carries a digital signal while RCA (composite) is an analog signal, it needs a converter for it to work.

Wiis are backwards compatible with gamecubes.
If you hack it then you can run gamecube isos.

No, to quote an amazon q/a:

it's an hdmi to rca converter. In other words it's the "female" hdmi receptacle. Its an adapter that allows for an hdmi cord to plug into a tv that that does not have an hdmi input.

in other words the item in your pic sends an hdmi signal to composite, it does not send a composite signal to hdmi
>>
>>376263178
Signals don't work like that, see >>376262907
>>
Get a Wii ($40) and component cables ($15), it's going to cost much less than Gamecube's component cables.

Not for Melee it isn't.
>>
>>376260869
Absolutely not. That Component to HDMI cable is fake. You can't convert it like that. It's a scam. You have to buy a box to convert the analog signal into a digital signal. Just splicing the wires together like that won't do the job.
Also I'm pretty sure Gamecube supports Component already, so you can drop the RCA cable.

>>376260869
no, you need an active converter
fortunately they're cheap, only take up 1 USB slot for power and work pretty well, I use one for my HDMI-only capture box
only complaint is that it outputs in widescreen, but my monitor has an inbuilt scaled that does 4:3 so I'm good
>>
>>376263893
because newer games output a digital signal that doesn't need to be converted at the native resolution of the TV, are you retarded?
if you have any sort of modern low lag monitor that's literally what modern games were made to be played on
>>
>>376262652
Remember when people joked that the Wii was just a souped up Gamecube? They weren't joking.
>>
>all these kids without Trinitrons
It's not even hard to find them, you all have shit taste.
>>
>>376264541
It's hard to find them cheaply because alot of people have caught on to the meme. I'd rather pay 20 bucks or nothing at all for a consumer set than 150 plus burgerbucks.
>>
>>376264603
My friend has found several for extremely cheap.
He's given me and my friend Trinitrons (one 20 inch, one 13 inch) because he finds so many
>>
This seems to be a good thread to ask this in.
I haven't bought a console in a long time, but I'm considering getting a Switch.
Thing is, I have a fairly old TV, about 10 years old or so, and it doesn't have HDMI input.
But it works great, so I don't want to replace it.
I've got DVI input and Component input available, but the DVI only accepts audio from a a 3.5mm jack.
What would anon recommend I go with for converting?
>>
>>376260869
Get a softmodded wii and bask in all the pirated games my man.
>>
>>376265056
fuck off pirate
>>
>>376262652
Because then you have progressive available and widescreen
>>
>>376261362
It's cheaper to buy a Wii U with its native HDMI and GameCube controller adapter and either rip your games or get the ISOs and use nintendont than get he component cables
>>
>>376263553
Sound sucks but image quality is okay.
Didn't notice any delay, but I also only played Skyward Sword with it.
>>
>>376267271
third party ones are cheap and the quality is indistinguishable
I have one for speedrunning Wii games as it's faster than WiiU
>>
>>376263893
You've never played a fighting game competitively, have you?
>>
>>376264398
Did anyone really joke about this? We knew the Wii was a higher clocked GameCube from the start. The only joke I remember was the "two GameCubes duct taped together" developer "joke" which I never thought was funny because it's only 1.5 gamecubes
>>
>>376268007
There are no third party component cables for the GameCube which is why it costs $300 for one. I actually thought I made bank in 2007 when I sold mine for $75 (original cost from Nintendo was $20). I feel kind of dumb now
>>
>>376260869
How would a PS2 look on a 768p TV?

>>376262652
