The regular shotgun is superior to the Striker. The Striker is a meme gun that has misleading stats. It doesn't actually have the firepower on it's sheet unless you are in melee range and only if you're hitting someone right in front of you. The exclusive is a noob trap as anyone who's decent at RE4 wouldn't need the extra shells. The Riot Gun is the best overall shotgun but the Shotgun has a decent spread and power.

Also, the Blacktail is better than the Red9 because of it's handling. And the Punisher isn't even a bad gun either since it's piercing ability is actually useful and you can afford to spend your 9mm bullets on it if you know how to manage your ammo well. The Punisher is bad if you want to only use pistols for the majority of the game but if you use your shells and rifle ammo instead of hoarding them all game, the Punisher is a perfectly fine gun. The Mathilda is another gun that scares away bad RE4 players because muh ammo but it's actually my favorite handgun as far as fun goes.

Bad RE4 players don't know how to abuse melee. Mediocre RE4 players over-rely on melee and don't know how to use ammo instead of hoarding them all game until they've got 60 rifle ammo clogging their cache at the last Regenerator fight. Your friends are autistic, yes, but to be fair most RE4 fans have never gotten over their aversion to spending ammo. It's the same as the "run away from zombies" meme in RE1. You can kill every single enemy in the game and still have a surplus of ammo yet bad players will recommend you run from everything to preserve ammo.

I use the Striker to save inventory space (no need to carry boxes of ammo and it takes up less space) and specifically because it excels at extreme close range. For mid-lifecycle I have other, better options.

Just my playstyle. I still love the other two, though I almost always skip the Riot Gun entirely.

RE4 has the best guns in the series. All upgrade-able in noticeable ways, each one does something different and has a clear use in gameplay.
I actually find myself personifying the guns. That's how good they are.

Wrong. The exclusive for the Silver Ghost comes too late and it's firepower isn't enough to kill mercenaries in a single headshot. The Blacktail and Red9 both can. I prefer the handgun because I like getting headshots but it'd be a lie to say that it's actually better than the Red9 in any way unless you're on a second playthrough and start with it's exclusive already upgraded.

The Striker has it's uses but it's place as best shotgun in the game is way overblown and not true at all. It's actually the worst overall shotgun. Even in close ranges a Riotgun aimed at a head will do more damage than a striker aimed anywhere since it's spread is so bad that it has trouble popping heads. And unless you're going mine thrower and TMP you shouldn't need the extra space in your inventory, and if you are, then use those guns instead of hoarding shells. Maybe if you don't use grenades at all and you hoard all your ammo instead of using, sure. But by the time that you get the Striker's exclusive, the game is already about to end.

But every gun has a place depending on your loadout. I believed for years that the Punisher was a bad gun and never used it because of bad players on the internet calling it trash but with the right load out it has it's place. It was actually useful against in the Island because of all the tight corridors and shields and not having to waste shells on the truck segment was nice. And I'm convinced now that the Killer 7 is the better magnum for fresh playthroughs because it's a stronger gun all the way up until you fight Saddler, yet people will still insist that the Butterfly is handsdown better in every case. Even though I think the Striker is the worst shotgun, it's still a good weapon, I just don't like it when people meme that it's unequivocally the best.

The thing about shotguns is that the only thing they're good for is knocking shit down that gets in your face. Everything else can be done better by another weapon. Meaning it doesn't matter how much damage it does, and range is worthless. The only thing that can be improved is the capacity, and thus the Striker dominates.

Yes. Ammo is plentiful enough and the explosion is about as strong as a handgrenade so it will kill most things in one or two shots. Good for crowd control but a bit unreliable because of the delay. Between the mine thrower and the TMP I usually choose the thrower because it's useful in more situations, whereas with the TMP I usually just save it's bullets for bosses.
