How can diversity be added to games without coming across as pandering or forced?

This is a good excuse for military shooter games.
The U.S. military military is already over 50% niggers and spics

Just do it without any political tweets from the head guy.
sound logical reasoning that is conducive to the world/setting/story you are trying to build

with it being done in a tasteful manner that really gets integrated into the story not just gender/race swapping the character model/sprite
however there are going to be always people who will complain

Develop your hypothesis
If you have to justify it, you've done it wrong.
If you draw attention to it, you've done it wrong.

The simplest solution? Don't make the character shit, and make them fit within the theme of the game. In Dragon Age: Inquisition, the Qunari named Iron Bull, an over-sized dwarf, was accepting of everyone. EVERYONE. He had no reason to be, since that goes against everything the Qunari are.
Have a cast of well-rounded, well-written characters and their ethnicities/genders/religions/etc. won't matter to audiences (or at least not the retarded ones).
Just don't start fellating yourself over it.
Every fucking time a 'diverse' game comes out you've got the devs going on about how important they think it is and humblebragging about it.

By not trying to force it
>>376245098
Just don't think about diversity. If you want to make a game with a cutie, make a game with a cutie. You make the game and story/characters you want to make.
>>376245098
You cant
When you create art or a story or something, you are not supposed to write someone else is telling you to do.

the reason most people complain about female characters/POC as the main protag is because it feels forced. battlefield 1 is a great example: even if there were various ethnicities fighting in WWI, there was no reason to make the cover character black - that was purely to satisfy people who would complain about under representation. if the game itself justifies the existence of the character, people who complain about it are being just as bad as people who complain about their lack of representation in games.
the MC of mafia 3 is a black guy, but it makes sense: its set in the south during the civil rights era. 2B is an android killing machine who happens to be modeled after a female. Watchdogs 2, on the other hand, was a blatant attempt to get a crowd of young, outspoken POC to play the game. it would have changed nothing but the storyline if he wasnt black, just like nothing important would've changed if Drake had a son instead of a daughter.
