What went so wrong?

Releasing a beta as the full release.
Taking too long to implement important features, thus letting the player base die before it actually got good.
Taking forever to do any sort of optimization, driving people away at the start.

This review sums up my feelings perfectly, while also giving a huge hit of nostalgia for a game I actually only played very little at the end with PS1.

Basically Sony being Sony, not enough money to run with buy to play or make a decent engine.

Annoyingly, if they attempted it today it would work easily thanks to SpatialOS doing exactly the kind of shit PS2 attempted, with prototypes whipped up in just a few months max. But you know none of those are really going to have much charm or excitement being little indie plaything projects.

At least bf 2142 had different vehicle models for each faction. Even if they operated nearly identical a simple different in silhouette can go a long way in making things feel unique

I think it's fun

It's fun when you have a platoon that works together and or has some bants and with a good amount of enemies.

I feel like these things don't happen as much anymore tho admittedly I haven't played in a few months.
