Even 2K is probably hesitant to give them anything after Battleborn hemorrhaged money, not to mention the last BL game, Pre-Sequel, underperforming. While PS wasn't a Gearbox title, it certainly did damage to the brand.

If BL3 ends up happening, it will be an 'all or nothing' endeavor, and like you said, it will only keep them alive a little while longer, as Randy the walking PR trainwreck will sink his own company eventually.
