It would be a bad business decision that cannibalizes sales of the current Smash. But, if Switch ever gets Gamecube games on the eShop, it wouldn't be a bad idea to put it up for download.

Melee is older than both wind waker and twilight princess which both saw HD remakes. It's not about age either. However, I will saw if the switch gamecube VC is an actual thing, you are far more likely to see it get a port there.

I'd agree with you, but Mario Kart 8's Switch edition is killing it in retail. Switch early adopters are thirsty enough for games that Super Smash Bros. for Switch could sell well too given a powerful incentive to upgrade.

I could see them selling a smash deluxe now that mario kart did so well. But since gc vc was rumored they'll have to put something out to push that. Sunshine, metroid prime, and melee would be a nice trio. And they could get the gamecube adaptor out early while producing smash switch.

Even if they did knowing Nintendo they'd find some way to really screw it up and then also charge you full price on top.
