It's deffinantly not the same, but i just picked up Prey last night and it's pretty good. I'm geting alot Haf Life 1 vibes from it. I'm enjoying it.

I fucking miss custom fun maps aswell as those complex horror maps 1.6 had. I cant think of a single game in the last ten years that had a community willing to make those kinds of maps or even a good enough map creator.

I just want valve to open source the half-life engine already.

Why won't someone make a standalone game of TTT, with all the retarded fun features of GM and many more, but without the clunkiness and bugs? Not only could it be a great game, it would probably do really well financially and it's a relatively simple concept. The levels can be pretty small as well.

Someone host a Half-Life server and let us pretend that it's 1998 again.

So many comfy maps, I wish there would have been a good single player to experience them. Maybe not even traditional half life mechanics, but a good single player mod. I know there was some okay single player mods, but most of the quality maps were made specifically for CS or Sven-Coop.

Maybe a wacky single player mod that takes you through maps like rats and poolday, doing objectives. I would kill for a full blown Rats Half-Life mod that takes you through a whole huge house. Maybe boss fights include a huge mother roach, a rat, obstacles like mouse traps, avoiding detection by moving humans. Having to back track for tools to get to new rooms.

I think Rust is somewhat of an exception to this, it's still got an active playerbase and actually gets developed. Then again, I haven't played it for several months, and of course it's not as good as it could be.
