I've only ever finished one project but I'm using it to make shorts and machinimas since it's something I've always wanted to do. I used to watch a lot of machinimas back in the day and used to hang out a lot with my cousin who made a bunch of machinimas when I was younger so I think it comes from that.

That's actually pretty good.
It kinda sucks how SFM came out when Machinima videos died down, especially thanks to that channel that was supposed to post video of such.
The only kinda of SFM videos popular on Youtube I see are of CSGO or Tf2.

It was for the cousin I used to hang out with, for his birthday I animated one of his old machinimas. It was an old Halo machinima he made and it was (i think) the most popular one he had done.
It wasn't that good (was my first project and I only had ~100 hours in sfm at the time) but I think it made him happy.

Yeah, I really wish SFM was released earlier. There's plenty of talent out there, sure, but it's all so limited to TF2, CS:GO and OverWatch (which makes sense since they have the most community support with models and such) but it feels like there's so much more they can do.
That and a lot of talent gets hidden because they don't stick to those games or the meme of the month.

I would give my left nut for a Source 2 but I don't see it coming out without any Valve games besides it. And I don't see Valve making any games any time soon (if ever)

still working on a halloween vid but i got stuck because it's impossible to use phonemes with zombie models. so in stuck trying to figure out a way to lipstick the model, the vid is 6 minutes long and aside from that it's done.

Honestly anon, when I got SFM I didn't understand anything, now I consider myself someone decent.
Even my first animation was absolute shit-tier. There's a lot of guides on YouTube and entire channels based around teaching SFM (Valve even has some SFM tutorials on the SFM YouTube channel). I'm decent at animating today and that's after 550 hours. Practice makes skill, trust me.

sfm is tough, it really is a labor of love. and there really isn't any tutorials that can teach anything beyond the basics. the best way to get good i think is practice and watch other people's videos, im still not very good and using the program is always a headache but making something your proud of is worth it i think.

it is depressing that SFM will never reach its true potential, since it hasnt been updaed in years and SFM2 is still locked to DOTA2.
Unreal engine 4 is now the only engine that has the potential now, specially since MMDers can move to it thanks to IM4U, but unfortunately, its not very known. and UE, being more game oriented is a no-no to filmmakers.at least the porn is good...
