That's par for the course for SMT, any difficult fights in them often take place very early in the game because by time you get to the end your Demons have such broken passive skills and moves that it trivializes any fight. Hell the most famous boss in Nocturne is one of the very first ones you fight, Matador. Barely anyone talks about how difficult anyone else is, just ol' Matador.

Also Persona 5 makes this even easier if you manage to finish the Twins confidant, fusing above your level is broken

Well Makoto and Ryuji are pretty common. I do see a lot of people shitting on Haru though. Never understood why. Once you level up her Persona she gets magic/phys repel which is pretty damn useful. She also has, correct me if I'm wrong, the highest crit rate out of all the party members with her gun skills. I used her a lot, since she didn't use up too much SP and was pretty amazing against most bosses. The one I was really disappointed with was Yusuke. He seemed like a really solid party member until around the time you enter Sae's dungeon. After that point I hardly ever used him, unless I needed Bufu. Morgana at least had some use as a healslut in between battles.

I thought of mentioning Mot too, but honestly he's less famous for his difficulty and more famous for RNG. When I fought him he didn't lock himself in to the Beast Eye shit. If he does that you're fucking screwed, if he doesn't then he's a standard boss. More people talk about Matador for being difficult, and he's really only that way because he's a test for the player. The game expects you to have a grasp on how to prepare for battles and the games mechanics, if you don't he kicks your ass.

On subsequent playthroughs you should just be demolishing him and for the most part the fights in Nocturne get easier as you go along too because Demi-fiend gets broken and your Demons have pretty amazing skills as well.

Morgana is probably the only character in the game who gets completely outclassed by another character who can do the same thing. There's no reason to use him over Makoto because she can heal, take hits better AND buff the party's defense. Ann's not really that useful either, but it's not because she's necessarily bad it's just that Magic is considerably weaker than Physical in this game. Ryuji and Makoto are givens for boss battles and the fourth slot should probably be given to Haru unless you absolutely need a mage, like for Shido's first form.
