I'm old enough that I remember gaming before WW2 games were mainstream. I first got into COD with COD1.

I remember talking to friends about COD in highschool and no one but the other nerds had heard of COD. Then suddenly COD got super popular with COD4, which for some reason I thought would fail since the series had always been about WW2 which I liked. I didn't want modern warfare, but I ended liking COD4 anyways and was glad they went back to WW2 with World at War. Then I remember with MW2 a lot of the popular hate for COD really got big among "gamers" because it became clear COD was now a thing for this new casual demographic that entered gaming in 2008. I remember hating COD for a few years but after a while it became clear that hating COD itself was just a normie meme, like hating Twilight or Justin Beiber. Who fucking cares enough to even hate it. COD's good at what it does, sure the online got shitty but the single player is always fun if you know exactly what you are getting in for, a short warboner gun porn campaign that is linear and full of scripted moments.

The negative effects of COD on the industry are just retards like EA trying to copy COD badly and turn everything into COD. Can't blame COD itself for that. Plus some of the COD games like Blops 2 even tried to branch out and have multiple paths and have multiple endings.

So no I don't hate COD. I quite enjoy it for what it is. Funnily enough, every person I've meet IRL who hates COD is a try hard gamer who thinks Battlefield is hardcore and plays MMO's and is into entry level shit like GTA.

I play games like Graviteam Tactics, Men of War, Red Orchestra and other more niche end strategy/sim games and I enjoy them. But I also enjoy COD campaigns. It's like a hollywood action flick at this point, 6 hours of a scripted fun as fuck blockbuster to just turn your mind off for a moment and enjoy the little guilty pleasure of gun porn, explosions, cool lines of dialog and action machismo.
