I'm really not enjoying this. I get that Heart Machine wanted to make an "NES Hard" game, but what the fuck.

Not to mention the wizard boss where the attacks come in lines across the floor, but because they wanted a geometrical attack animation, if you walk to avoid it you're too slow, but if you dodge you roll into the next one

the game seems to focused on art direction, and they just laid out the graphics for the bosses and enemies without actually playing it in motion

I actually kind of have a beef with the art direction in the sense that the maps aren't very readable. Especially with the mechanics they've got going, you need to be able to orient yourself in a split second, which is hard to do with so little depth cues and limited contrast

If the goal was to make an NES-hard game, they did a pretty bad job. The game isn't very challenging at any point. I did have a lot of frustration dealing with the controls though. I kept wishing they were more responsive than they were. Being able to reliably cancel attacks into a dodge and vice versa would have been a nice change.

Maybe not. I had to fiddle around in order to get my gamepad to work and it took about 4 hours to beat. I'd say it's worth about half that though.

I thought it was a great when I finally finished it. Setting was cool combat was fun once you get the pacing and spacing down. It's really not supposed to be 2D souls like people are saying. The dev said they were going for Zelda or Diablo inspirations I think I read somewhere. It's got some shortcomings but I didn't expect much from indie games and didn't know it was a a Kickstarter thing until I was almost done. I really liked it, it's environments, enemies, music, were enjoyable for me. I don't play a lot of Indies but this one left me wanting more games like it.
