This, the RTS genre never died it just evolved.

Not all evolutions are an improvement, but RTS weren't that good to begin with.

Bring back Westwood, have them make a proper finale to Tiberium Twilight with an ending that makes sense, not that garbage shit EA put out, then have them make Red Alert 4. Huge maps with hundreds of units all fighting at once, with the charming over the top B list actors in the cut scenes.

Fuck you guys. Everyone of you pretends to be RTS fans, but all you do is masturbate to your ten year old RTS games without really giving a shit about whats new. Starcraft 2 fixed its initial match-up problems that it had back in WOL. Did you guys come back to play? Nope. Company Of Heroes 2 removed its dumb shit, and is now far more balanced and has match-ups with more than just the main two factions thus being better than COH1 in every way. Did you guys care? Nope. Dawn Of War 3 tried something completely different with the RTS genre with insane amount of individual unit customization through doctrines, a totally different strategic pacing/approach required to achieve goals, and bringing another fresh role for buildings in an RTS. Did you guys like the most recent game with potential to revive the genre? Nope.

You guys aren't actual RTS fans, just nostalgia fags dickriding the same old games from the early-mid 2000s. Feel free to pretend to be actual RTS fans if the delusion helps make you feel better, but in reality your pretensions are only cancer to the genre. So maybe it's better if you kill yourselves.

how has RTS been dead? those games are great and persisted from 2005 and upwards.
these threads are false flagging. you want RTS to be as big as Zelda or some shit and that's just never gonna happen because you can only be super popular if you're also popular with children and most children can't play RTS, it's too complex for them.

>>
>>376199556
Well, Starcraft remastered is coming out this summer, that might bring younger generations to discover the RTS genre.

after that, someone needs to come up with a RTS game that is also fun to play as a single player game, either by having a good campaign or by not designing the game to be a e-sports game. The major problem newer RTSs have at the moment is that they usually are designed to be almost multiplayer only games, but since the community is small, fewer people will buy them, because they feel the multiplayer might die instantly. By having good single player features, like a fun campaign, this might be reduced, because people might stop thinking that they're going to waste money in a game that might die immediatly

>>
>>376204338
I see this argument repeated time and time again. Where you kids even alive when RTS games were actually popular? There was a huge glut of single-player orientated RTS games and the genre died out because they almost universally played like shit. Only multiplayer remained because these games actually work better as multiplayer games, but they became completely inaccessable to most people with an extreme focus on micromanagment

>>376204338
Yeah, newer RTS games should really advertise they have a fully fledged single player campaign and not short shitty ones like what CoD would have

RTS must focus on SP campaigns again.

It must follow the Warcraft 3/Starcraft standard.

At least 10 scenarios for each race with a decent war story (not hard to do, considering RTS is capable of doing epic conflict stories, not just retarded one or two fight like in action/RPG).

THE GENRE IS NOT DEAD YET, IT'S STILL ALIVE IN EUROPE AND RUSSIA, YOU JUST GOTTA MAKE MORE SP-ORIENTED RTS
>>
>>376205306
Wargame series has been going strong for nearly a decade now.
>>
>>376199556
They shouldn't be focused on multiplayer. Modern playerbase can't handle personal responsibility.
>>
Was Grey Goo any good?

Klepacki OST makes me want to play
>>
>>376205483
I dunno but Cossacks 3 is legit good, but that's because it copies the 1st game, essentially a remake.
>>
Im noticing a trend here, everyone screaming SP RTS while I think the main issue is not having large enough community for multiplayer for these games to go autistic like they do even for mobile games like Castle Crash or modern mobas.
I think it boils down to people not having the time or simply the brain power required for intense RTS match.
>>
>>376205570
The single player campaign is what hooks noobs into the games so they can go into MP.

Look at how WC3 hooks shitton of people due to the SP campaign, even DoW1 attracts people via SP.
>>
>>376205329
>RTS must focus on SP campaigns again.
And not make them incremental fucking DLC
>>
Is there anything similar to Stronghold Crusader?
>>
>>376204338
How the same game with slightly updated textures and higher resolution support impact anything at all? Younger generations already wrote the game off for a variety of reasons.

>>376205656
You are completely wrong if you think that people that pick up games for SP campaign transition into MP afterwards. Only maybe 1 in 20 will do that and even they will quickly see that MP takes too much effort for them and stop.
>>
>>376199556

Are Americans so bad at politics that their only political candidates for president are going to be fucking Kanye Wesst and Mark Zuckerberg?
>>
>>376204885
Yes, I was alive while RTS games were popular, and I see what you're trying to say: too much focus on the single player is dangerous, since the multiplayer part of the game, wich is usually the more popular one, might suffer from it.

What I'm suggesting isn't a return to that period's mentality that "single player is the only thing that matters", I'm simply suggesting that newer games should ALSO focus on the single player side.

RTS games nowadays attract only a small community of people, who already know the genre, while newer people that might want to get into RTS games might think twice about it, because they know that the player pool is small, so not only they might think they are wasting their money on a game that might "die" in a small amount of time, but also they know that they might face people that are WAY more experienced than them. Introducing a single player side might be helpful, since not only people might think that they are not wasting money, since the game offers a lot more to them, but as >>376205074 said, good single player modes are nice, since they introduce you to the game mechanics while offering you what might be a good story, without the risk of getting your ass handed to you by a person that has been playing with RTS for over 10 years
>>
>>376206079
>You are completely wrong if you think that people that pick up games for SP campaign transition into MP afterwards.
this desu, it happened in SC2 where only 20% of people who did SP went onto MP, that is why they made co-op in LotV
