D3 is a good game now. They've been fixing it for years and it's very different from how it launched. It's still not perfect but it's very playable unless you're looking for atmosphere or story instead of gameplay. Combat in D3 is crazy fun. There's just a bunch of butthurt D2 fans who hated launch and we're right but haven't gone back to see how good it has gotten.
I prefer it over 1 and 2 by far at this point.

I enjoy Diablo 3 too, it's just I want to try something different is all. The game slowly feels like a let down though after testing out the Necromancer. The fucker doesn't even raise enemies from the dead. He's a Summoner at best. The class isn't bad, it's just a huge disappointment, even if you aren't hyped for him. I don't know why, but just the fact of him coming into the game soon is bumming me out. The Necromancer pack is only worth it for the extra stash tabs.

The class itself is a bootleg version of Witch Doctors. Demon Hunter is still the best class.

D3 is a very fun game but a terrible Diablo game. Most of the worst issues that people had have been "fixed" but in a way that fundamentally changes the game away from what made Diablo 2 great.

The primary way as >>376198085 mentioned is by making the itemization absurdly limiting, with every single build (minus thorns builds) focusing on having the exact same stat types on the exact same pieces of gear and wearing usually two different set bonuses. Legendary items now drop like candy and have max 4 of 6 stats on them so you're pretty likely to find a decent piece you need, which means gear farming is more or less obsolete outside of minor upgrades. And you can't even trade items!

Plus now the game has "spell weapons," aka a legendary weapon that buffs a particular ability usually both with a key modifier to its functionality AND a massive damage boost, which means one spell does massive damage and none of the rest can compare.

Secondly, because finding items isn't fun anymore, Greater Rifts are the new main source of progression. Damage scales so absurdly that your goal is to not get one-shot while mowing down giant clumps of enemies.

This, in and of itself, can be pretty fun and can make progression feel like a tense dance of moving in and out of enemy groups while you fire off your abilities while various non-elite enemies are firing off projectiles to dodge or have charges or teleports or have wind-up nukes or explode when you kill them.

But (tl;dr) that's a totally different game from what made Diablo 2 so fun, and that's why old fans hate it.

The worst part is that because Sets are so prevalent, every new item they add in each patch (usually a single one for each class) is either a direct buff to one of the sets or is actual literal garbage.

An item was added two seasons ago for Demon Hunters to do more damage with their mine ability, but it didn't fit into any builds well enough so the community completely ignores it.

There's only one thing I really miss from the original release of diablo 3. And that's mainly that demon hunters used to always throw clusters of three grenades, and grenade cache let them threw five.

I'm still vaguely hoping that they release a unique property weapon that gives 'grenade now benefits from the grenade cache rune' eventually, since my special snowflake DH build and pushing it far as possible is the only thing that keeps me vaguely interested in the game.

The thing is that you don't have to use the most META top leaderboard build to have fun. People seem to have forgotten this. Virtually any build can clear GR70 as long as it has some sort of brain behind it.

The only thing infinite GR scaling does is alter people's perception of the game. They do a 90 and no longer want to go back to something that's fun but only does 60 or 70. There's plenty of variety just no variety at the absolute peak.

Gameplay is pretty good but as far as i'm concerned these games are about character building and loot hunting and D3 fails at both miserably.
