I hope you enjoy FC! The game's not terribly interesting from the start, but there's always cool dialogue and things to do. SC and 3rd have done a great job of validating the fun I had with FC, and vice versa.

Be sure to tinker with Cheat Engine if you find the pace of combat/travel/cutscenes too slow. It's been a game-changer for me.

It has its advantages, but I find the quality gap smaller than I did at launch.

SC obviously takes place in the same Liberl you first explored in FC; NPC dialogue's changed and stories have developed, but there's not much new to explore other than some dungeons, a new part of Grancel, more stuff related to the Towers, and then a huge final area for the game's conclusion. The game's formula is more obvious than FC's, but it does up the stakes when you have to solve problems like earthquakes and death threats sent to politicians and the Bracer Guild. SC's biggest advantage is moments not unlike what the 3rd has: conversations with your cast and NPCs aboard airships, crazy plot conclusions towards the end, and really fun side-quests.

I have been thinking about this and I think the main story of the game might stand on its own just fine, but there would be some very strange things for someone who went right into 3rd without playing the others.

For example, imagine playing a game where new characters literally join your team by "hatching" from a magical egg - And then they proceed to talk to you as if you've known each other for years.

Then there's all the background info pertaining to events that have happened since the end of SC that you would be lost in if you aren't familiar with the characters.

Basically it might technically be right but it wouldn't come across as a very good game I think? You might get lost

There's a Japanese PC release of Zero. It is just Joyland's port with the Japanese script inserted but still. Zero won't be a problem to bring over if XSEED choose to do so.

It's Ao where the problem lies, but given that it largely uses the same engine as Zero then I can't imagine it'd be impossible for XSEED to do their own PC port of it if Zero comes over. But that's assuming they will come over in the first place.
