You can play just Tetris or just Puyo in Versus. The Adventure goes through pretty much all of the modes, which is good for practice actually.

The Swap and Fusion modes are fun if not a little brain-bending. Puyo vs. Tetris is interesting.

It got a localization after so long of staying in Japan so the niche fanbase it had was hype as fuck, but happening early in a new console's life also helped it get some attention, and the demo on Switch really helped get some people interested.

Then the story mode hooks people in with waifus and husbandos while the multiplayer keeps discussion going on how to get better at the game. Especially since many people playing in English now are relatively new to the genre itself, so some of this depth is blowing their minds, and that can go for both Puyo Puyo and Tetris.

All in all, it's just finding a moderate amount of success, and as a longtime Puyo Puyo fan,I am loving this shit. I'm still not good at it though.

I think it was just a matter of good timing to try bringing Puyo Puyo over again. Having Tetris as a guest was certain to help obviously, but it's also much more convenient for Sega to get it done now since they have Atlus at their disposal now so they put Atlus USA on the job for this. And on top of that, it was localized for a brand new console with less games to compete with, and an already established console with a massive install base, letting them cover two very different bases with the faith that at least one of these two would do well.

Whatever the case, I hope this paves the way to more Puyo Puyo games coming over in the future. Such a long running franchise deserves its share of attention from the world, so it's better to start getting it out here late than never.

Basically, when you set a puyo down, it defines the color for the sandwich.
Then, it needs a single 'key puyo' which is a color from the sandwich next to it.
This can be anywhere except the top.
After that, you just keep building across. Since the 211 and 112 sandwich can use transitions, and transitions and transition into each other, it's almost impossible to have a junk puyo.

I'm very good at Tetris, but a total beginner in Puyo. I'm currently stuck in Chapter 4 and can't get further (don't want to skip missions). I also can't beat even the easiest cpus in versus in Puyo, while I can beat the harder ones in Tetris.

Definitely start off getting a single 2-chain.
Then turn that into a 3-chain once you feel comfortable.
Continue until you can get 5 or 6 chain pretty regularly.
That should get you through story mode at least. 3-star even.

If you can get it on the Switch, go for that. Portable, digital option, and most of the posters here are on it. That being said, I have it on PS4 and we could use some more numbers.

The game is fun and all but can you change the voices to the Japanese actors in the full version? Like seriously, the voice acting is so bad in the English version.

The dub voices are good, anyways. The only one who's really bad is Feli, and her Alt voice mostly fixes the issue. The voicework during the story mode is top fucking tier for this sort of game, too, especially during the EX chapters.

I just can't do it, it's hard enough for me to line up back to back tetris pieces. But trying to chain anything? I just lack the long term planning skills for that.

I already looked up the guides for basic chaining like 3 by 1 stacks and can't even do that.

Am I just fucked when it comes to puyo or is there something else I can try?

Just practice, it's really just pattern recognition and memorization. Once you get even remotely good you don't even think about the stuff you worry about right now, it will go completely automatic. Just try and replicate simple techniques at the start, like sandwiches. There's very easy to understand tutorials about the more basic ones, just watch those and practice, practice, and practice some more. Once you can build 5 chains without really having to think at all you can start moving up a bit by playing against human opponents and eventually moving on to more complex set ups.
Getting to a pretty solid level really just comes down to reps in the end, just like in Tetris. It's not until you get to the upper echelons of puyo grand masters that you actually need some sort of talent for it

The reason Chronicle is 3D is because of the RPG mode so probably not. The 3D models aren't bad, though. Only real stinker is Ocean Prince's and even that you could fix with camera angle and animation adjustments.
