Honestly you can stick with the main party and be fine for the most part.
Skills aren't hard as long as you don't spread them too thin across multiple weapons, so with the hero I go for Sword/Courage, Yangus I go for Axe/Scythe with some points in Humanity, Jessica is Whip and Sex Appeal, and Angelo just do anything but Sword.

Is dragon Quest heroes 2 any good?
As in does it still take a million years to do anything, slow and clunky with 5x as much cutscene and dialogue as necessary. Even saving is a chore.

The stone guardian in DQH1 was annoying to fight. Like running after it and trying to protect the two dwarves.

Pretty simple honestly, just grind and go to towns and talk to pretty much everyone until someone informs you about something that sounds important, you can go back to the main inn to make custom party member.

As much as I like Toriyama's style I feel like he literally has not changed for the past 2 decades.

Like, he's just completely stagnated. There isn't that much of a difference between DBZ, his early work on Chrono Trigger and modern day Dragon Quest. At this point I'm kind of tired of it.

Just looking at all the characters in DQHII, I feel like the art has come along fine. Faces seem more varied than they used to be, and the designs feel pleasantly familiar, rather than stale. I believe the lack of real change is purposeful. DQ is a nostalgia-driven series in all aspects.

I love the world building. That every location has a story and overlapping plot.

I tried to play Dragon Quest 8 on 3DS but just couldn't bear it. Everything from talking to characters to opening menus is made unnecessarily long. How long until you learn powers besides Attack? I tried to get to the first dungeon but found myself running out of health on the way there, and walking all the way back to Town to rest at the end seemed ridiculous.
