I liked all of them equally so I just threw up whatever picture I had on my computer. Gameplay wise I liked 3 and peacewalker due to nostalgia as they were my first games and I liked the story direction and gameplay. Game design wise I like MGS, MGS4 and TPP the most. In terms of writing I liked 2 the most in that regard.

As someone who loves it, I think it's a bit overrated when compared to more recent SMT games. Nocturne has a lot of faults, especially in the managing of demons (variety, recruiting, fusion), making it very hard to go back after playing one of the more recent games.

That's fine, and I can get why you'd think that. But I personally didn't like SMT IV at all, and have no plans on playing Apocalypse after that. A lot of the games that simplify the demon fusion (DeSu) also just don't click with me for whatever reason. Nocturne, however, still manages to hit all the right spots for me. It still looks and sounds great, and the difficulty is spot-on throughout.

As somebody who is NOT a fan of Persona 3/4 though, I am really really impressed with Persona 5. It's easily the best SMT-related game I've played since Strange Journey.

Baroque is the coolest console roguelike I have ever played. It has one of the most confusing and surreal stories you'll find in a game, with a nonlinear progression, which will require you to do things like die to move the story forward. It's one of those games you have to dive into and just figure everything out for yourself. The item system and NPC interactions are perfect. On top of that, it's in first-person and has this wonderful horror atmosphere with a great soundtrack to boot. I highly highly highly recommend it. The japanese is fairly high-level, but it did get a remake on PS2/Wii, which unfortunately cuts back pretty drastically on the horror elements. However, the game itself is still more than enjoyable, and it's absolutely worth playing for the story alone.

I don't know how to recommend Princess Maker 2, outside of 'play it.' I believe it's the epitome of the raising genre, and you'll be blown away by just how many possibilities the game has, and just how deep it is. It's really fun and charming, and chances are you haven't played anything else like it. Enjoy the number crunching.

Linda^3 I'll recommend with just pic related. You will need to be pretty much fluent in Japanese to appreciate it, but it's one of those completely unique RPGs that's (almost) up there with stuff like Moon or the Mother trilogy for me. Great humor, cool music, and surprisingly deep.

Wow the Saturn version looks so much better than the PS2 one. I really like the bizarre aesthetic and setting, somewhat reminds me of bits I enjoyed from SMT2.
Am I better off playing the original or remake? And are there viable translation patches for these games?

As far as RPGs go I'm charmed by Mother and the oldschool SMT games. Would you recommend Moon as well?
