It's a great story and worth talking about but as a game it's not very good. It's a really good horror story, not a really good horror game.

As a game it's pretty horrible. It speaks volumes when it's actually arguably better to just remove the danger from the game entirely and turn it into a literal walking sim than have to deal with it's cumberstone and boring stealth and survival mechanics.

It's not very good as a horror either. Even without the mods that remove the danger, the game is rarely ever scary above just being unsettling and dark.

That said, it's a good story, and it has great atmosphere. And if you can just ignore the fact that it's a wasted opportunity to make anything mechanically interesting happen, it's still worth playing through for the settings, character, story and themes. It's one of the better sci-fi's and arguably one of the best takes on the otherwise really tired subject matter of artificial intelligence and consciousness you'll find.

Basically, it's the opposite of Talos Principle: the gameplay is really dull and not worth playing for at all, but the actual "philosophy" is worth paying attention to.

Definitely not the best "game" out there, and not the best horror either.* But worth playing non the less.
