I feel like Fallout is a great series that never got it's Morrowind and you can't make that game because casuals wouldn't play it.

Imagine some Fallout game where you learn about some scientist who is up to no good in a mountain somewhere with a big force field around the mountain.
You talk to and learn about all these different groups that fallow specific members who were all changed by some lab accident.
You learn you are a clone of this one really central character who was betrayed.
Then there is DLC about Were-Deathclaws or some shit on an island.

At this point in time I'd settle for a well polished game that could play very well in 3rd person.

Both Obsidian and Bethesda have said that Obsidian are West Coast people, and that Bethesda are East Coast people, since that is where their respective HQs are, and that both are companies are fine with that since it allows them to better make games correct culterally since they live there, and can easily go to places like Boston or Vegas or w/e to do research.

Avellone also said in an itnerview not too long after New Vegas came out that Bethesda left them do whatever they wanted with the entire western U.S., which no company would do unless they didn't care what Obsidian did with it, which they only wouldn't care if they had no desire to set any game there themselves.

The Midwest is similarly an area where neither company really wants to touch, especially due to tactics being kind of canon but not all the way, and neither company really wanting to have to sort it out.

And when it comes to the East Coast, Bethesda largely covered the central part of the east coast in Fallout 3, and the northern part of the East Coast in Fallout 4, leaving only the southern part of the East Coast for Fallout 5.

After that, the only part of the post-war U.S. we wouldn't have seen or heard about in a game is the rest of the south, which can easily be covered by New Orleans, Miami, Dallas, and Nashville based games.

IF they ever do a game in the Midwest, will be set in Chicago, period. Detroit would be too close to "The Pitt 2", Minneapolis was destroyed, and Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Milwaukee, and Kansas City, simply lack the pop culture pull that Chicago does.

St Louis will likely be a DLC for a Chicago game.

Tactics has already been confirmed semi-canon by both Bethesda and Obsidian, and it has been mentioned in Fallout 3, NV, and 4.

Specifically its been confirmed that
-A BoS company was sent east to track down super mutants who fled after the Master was killed
-These BoS soldiers were sent in airships
-Those airships crashed near Chicago
-The BoS reground and fought super mutants around the Chicago area
-The BoS assimilated some of the super mutants into their ranks
-The Chicago chapter still exists as of at least 2250, as Owyn Lyons was told by the Lost Hills Elder on the West Coast to make contact with them, and bring them back under the main BoS command, as part of his journey east. We also know the MWBoS basically told him no
-Caeser mentions capturing BoS scribes further out east who don't know the name of Maxson. And the only BoS chapter known to be further east then the Mojave, but still near Caesar's lands, are the Midwestern Brotherhood near Denver

Other minor tidbits that are canon include Nuka-Cherry, and giant Raoches(rad-roaches)
