While I find it to be suboptimal when at a distance, the sheer damage usually makes up for it, especially when combined with dragon and/or triangular gate for unreachable enemies.
I'm more partial towards the Damocles, myself, seeing as how the same PSI spells stategy can be employed with a much lesser weight malus.

I prefer to stay at a distance. When I do get into close-range combat, I usually just fall back to the default katana.

Nope, game is unfinished and got mostly 6/10s at best, and we know what that means in today's rating system.

They fixed a bunch of game breaking issues but the game is still lacking core features that make it worth playing.

Its two saving graces are a perfect rendition of what a space hulk looks like and the best flame thrower in decades, but everything else is broken.

The game has no music and it probably wasn't a choice.
The relic collection system leads to nothing. They do nothing. it is also absent from the multi-player mode, making the huge maps mostly pointless since you have nothing to search for and just bee-line to the objective.
Relics were the only thing you had to do aside from the main objectives, there are no quests, random bosses, events etc.
Enemies can crit you for insta death, which doesn't really work well when there's an infinite number of them in coop and the players/medics can't do anything to revive a downed player - at best you can insta respawn a fallen marine if you have the right class and its power isn't on cooldown.
Things get repetitive real fast once you see the rather small bestiary. It's all gene-stealer with palette swaps, maybe 5 different kinds of them tops.
The game even has you coming back to old levels in the last few chapters.
There are no memes or nothing close to an interesting story. There is no super-speed or fun mechanic like EYE had, terminator armors being what they are, you move rather slowly and have to stick to 2 weapons.
The narrator sounds like he's reading every line for the first time.
The experience system is kinda retarded too but there's a mode to turn it off.

All in all it's pretty broken

Do note that the devs are working to fix those issues right now - there's been an update promising new enemies, objectives in coop mode, more classes etc.
It's too late for a success that'd make EYE 2 possible, but who knows, maybe it'll be worth playing in half a year.
