One of my profs saw I was going really good in physiology and was like "you're pretty good with vaginas, you should consider making a career out of this." And implied if I just toughed my way through the occasional uggos, I'd get to work on hotties all the time.

people don't usually dedicate a decade of their lives to something based on how much you charge, especially if it's disgusting. most people I know who went into colorectal surg did so because they were interested in the disease processes and liked cases involving the distal gut more than what GI surg provided. it boils down to interest, just like it would for plastics/uro/gyn etc.
