It's okay. I was just murdered by a jumping coffee mug

It's pretty fun. Still salty it's not Prey 2 though.
>>
Level design is superb, the world is really really detailed and feels right.
Narrative-wise I'm feeling disappointed, considering Avellone is in it it's being quite weak in that aspect, at least in the way it's told specially side-quests.

How linear is the game? Is it just shooting things or is there a skill or level up system? Also crack out yet?
>>
I've just unlocked the ability to turn myself into a turret. It's pretty fucking fun.

Not going to waste my neuromods on that heavy lifting shit though.
>>
>>376149410
That's what they get for no PC Demo.
>>
>>376149494
Good question. I can't remember the last game where I was, by large, allowed to just go and shoot things. I can't remember the last good one anyway. Probably the first Bioshock.
>>
>>376149494
You gain more skills, such as increased lifting, or increased security / inventory space / hacking and whatnot with Neuromods. There's other upgrades to your psyonic abilities later in the game that are powers that allow you to do a bunch of fun stuff I won't spoil.

It's not linear at all, the game is very open and well detailed and you can kinda do what you want when you're in a new area and explore to your own liking, though some areas are locked off and you will need either to upgrade your neuromods to access them, or find the keycodes / keycards in other areas to unlock the doors.

The guns can be upgraded, such as reload, damage, range, etc.

>>
You fucked up now /v/.

Up to this point I thought you actually knew shit about games. When you talked shit about Bioshock Infinite and shitposted by calling Bioshock 2 good, I honestly thought those were actual opinions you had.

But now you're talking shit about a game that's almost identical to System Shock 2.

You faggots never played any classic games, you are a bunch of underageb&s who started gaming with fucking Halo 3 spouting edgy buzzwords with all the other social outcasts.

None of you faggots know the first fucking thing about what makes a good game.

You are all nothing but edgy neogaf.

>>
>>376150114

>>
>>376150286
Do you seriously think anyone in this thread has played the system shock games? Most of /v/'s userbase wasn't even born when system shock came out
>>
>>376150393
>Optional Weapon Wheel
>Therefore shit game, unplayable garbage, nothing good about it.
>>
>>376150317
It depends, do you like single player bioshock / system shock esque games with a bit of deus ex and alien isolation thrown in, with lots of exploration and attention to detail? If so, yes. Otherwise, I'd say wait for a sale. Also, I've been having issues with crashing on my GTX 970, and I had to start a new game after about 4 hours because I couldn't load a new area without crashing, and I didn't have old saves to fall back on.
>>
>>376150415
I don't enjoy playing on pc anymore. On the rare occasion I do pick up a game, it's a drm riddled mess that turns out a disappointment anyway.
>>
>>376150354
I have it on just normal PS4 and haven't had any issues as far as like FPS goes, everything else is fine might want to tweak with the sensitivity a bit.
>>
>>376150134
You can easily go back to the main lobby after you activated the lift.
>>
>>376150630
I do like those games quite a lot. I'm worried now, I also have a GTX 970, should be patched pretty soon though I'd think? I'll think about it, might just buy it later on today.
>>
How long does it take? Like on average, 20 hours or so? Or less?

How long till you get alien powers? Just restored the looking glass shit and got to my office, all the enemies are upgraded now and it's a kick in the nuts cause I don't have any ammo recipes besides 9mm
>>
>>376148802
I'm 8 hours in and so far it only keeps getting better.
>>
>>376150709
Cool, cheers. No way I'd pay full price anyway, but this is the first game I've wanted in a while, so will grab it when its half price in a month.
>>
>>376150782
You have to gain access to Psychotronics to get powers, that can happen right away if you know how or later on in the story.
>>
>>376150782
I'm 15 hours in and i feel like I've done a bit more than half the game.
I try to check everything.
>>
>>376150859
oh alright. I figured it was a story related thing and gated behind it. Coolio, thanks dude.
>>
>>376150732
Don't know yet, I haven't heard anything but on the steam forums other people are reporting saves getting corrupted and whatnot.

Othewise the game is been fine on my second playthrough though, haven't had any problems yet.

The issue started when I tried to access an older area I already went to, it would crash during the loading screen every single time I tried to load.

I'd say if you get it, make sure to make manual saves pretty often so that you can fall back on an older save file if crashing starts.
>>
>>376150405
That's how the format on /v/ has been for years

It's easy and fast to read.
I think you're the one who's spent too much time on Reddit, so you're impulsively projecting that onto others. Because you're a fucking faggot.
>>
>>376151050

So I have the leverage perk...

If I get a bunch of shit and cram it into a single space and I chuck a recycler grenade at it will it give me shitloads of materials? Or is there some shitty limit per recycle grenade?
>>
>>376152952
Why not trying it out faggot
>>
>>376150286
This. If you like System Shock series and Deus Ex then this game is easily 9/10.

It's done a good job of separating out the people who claim they like a certain type of thing they haven't actually played just for board cred
>>
>>376152952
There's no limit exactly, but you get what you put in and the yields from recycling props like reployers and storage tanks with the recycler charges are pitiful even in the places where they expect you to throw them.
>>
>can't reload new saves or the game crashes

I was having fun up until this point, but wow this is really irritating.
>>
>>376153326
Im 23, never played Deus Ex or System Shock and from the demo alone...Prey is a fucking 8/10 i was frustrated on some parts but that shit was fun.

Also got a big ol' erection since I found the neuromod schematic and I've got the extra alien organ harvesting skill and the improved recycler skill. Gonna level up everything. GONNA DO IT.

I agree with this post but it still shouldn't surprise you. Think about how well the System Shocks did, how well Deus Ex did, how well Thief did. They were never big with normalfags, and the only reason they have a normalfag following now is because their talking heads on Youtube tell them how great the games are and they parrot their opinions.

no cap, but you'll find it difficult to fit more than like 30 things in at once if you're including props and not just items, because props take up so much space and give comparatively few materials.

So far I'm pleasantly surprised. I had no idea what to expect. Playing on Nightmare and it seems somewhat fair. Died once to something I thought was total bullshit but thinking on it now, I think it might have been telegraphed. It was an environmental death

Not too impressed with the enemy design so far, although I've only played just under 2 hours.

i hate that kinda shit in games. where doing side stuff and exploring is actually a bad idea. had i known, i woulda rushed to get powers, then gone back to the side stuff.

also i really wish there was some way to mark doors and locked safes and stuff that i cant get in now. so i remember to go back to them and hack them once i upgrade my skills or whatever. theres so much shit in this dense ass game, that theres probably already a handful of areas i wont remember to go back to once im upgraded.

I got jerked around with them hard when I bought XCOM 2 from them. They sent me a key that had already been redeemed. Took some hassling to get them to follow through with my complaint but I finally received the game.

They didn't even notify me they had sent a replacement key, though. I had to check back after a while and there was a new one suddenly.

I've purchased from them about 7 times now and only ever had the issue once. Still received my game in the end.
>>
>>376156218
I've gotten a few off kinguin with no issues. Just make sure you buy from sellers with good reputation, it's pretty easy to spot scam sellers.
>>
>>376154893
I think it's story gated. You can get access to the front room in the lobby for psychotronics earlier with the nerf gun, but you need the code/keycard to open the door there to access the actual zone.

If you shoot up with alien juice, turrets no longer recognize you as human and will attack. It can also rile the aliens up if you're trying to go all post-human. So yeah, the alien upgrades are entirely optional and come with a tradeoff, though they're powerful.

Stun gun isn't that good, but it's actually tolerable in nightmare. You can basically stunlock a single phantom by zapping him, giving him a couple whacks with a wrench, and then re-zapping. Probably doesn't matter in lower difficulties and it doesn't matter all THAT long in nightmare, but it has a bit of a use.

Plus humans, of course. If you're achievement-inclined there's one for saving as many humans as possible on the station, and there are some mind controlled humans.

ooo i was wondering why i was able to hack them, when they are good guys. so if you have powers, and hack a turret, it will ignore you, but still shoot other aliens or what? i love the turrets. i carry one with me everywhere i go and just bait out all the mimics and lead them to my turret friend whos lying in wait.

>It can also rile the aliens up if you're trying to go all post-human
what do you mean by this?
>>
>>376156808
>>376156904

>>
>>376157395
When does the demo end? Since I'm on PC I never actually played it.
>>
>>376157257
I've heard that being all aliened-up makes the nightmare alien attack you more often/more vigorously, but since I'm still playing through my first play of it I don't have anything to compare it to so I dunno for sure. Think it may also impact your endings but again not positive. Turrets are the only thing I know concrete.

>>
>>376158674
Then psychotronics/alien powers are anywhere from like an hour to 2-3 hours after that depending on how much you crawl around exploring side-shit. Immediately after that you get sent to the machine lab, and after that you head to psychotronics.

Actually now that I think about it it might be a little longer. Kinda hard to keep straight since I'm at 9 hours played now and I'm only just getting in there, but I'm also exploring a fuckton and playing on nightmare so there's some reloading when I come up against tough aliens.

I will also say the enemy variety is a bit better than I thought it might be. Almost everything is still black blobby aliens but there are variants. Had a giant crystal alien that shot electro-balls, an electro-phantom which you don't want to even be near, fire phantom that does archvile shit, purple phantom that splits into 2, and invisible fucker. Plus some kinda tougher mimic. And possessed robots.

I'm 12 hours in and have already put a fair amount into turrets/engineering shit. About to go to crew quarters

Is it worth going full alien at this point?

Can I still hack the turrets to make them friendly?
Do the powers outweigh it?
>>
>>376159667
Dunno family, I couldn't say since I haven't tried both. The turrets seemed weak to me, but a buddy of mine says he's been spending points on engineering so he can fortify the turrets and claims they're really good.

If you've got neuromods to toy with just try savescumming a bit. Dump 'em all in alien shit and run around like a maniac for a few minutes and see how it pans out compared to your turrets.
>>
>Go out the first airlock
>Find one of those gigantic mimic-possessed robots floating near a body
>Try various methods to kill it, all seem to not work well
>Finally just use the stun gun up close and then bash him with a wrench
>Literally flying around in outer fucking space beating a gigantic robot to death with a steel tool

This game is fantastic.

>>

>>
I didn't enjoy much about the combat, and the audiovisual experience got really annoying. Sound mixing is super weird, such that inconsequential characters are louder than absolutely everything else while enemies are barely audible. Similarly, I don't like that the game lays on a thousand filters whenever an enemy is close, so I can't see what is five feet away from me. Additionally, there are no options for field of view or motion blur, so it can be hard to see what's going on in general.

On hard, the mimics turned out to be more challenging than I'd anticipated. The situations they get you into are certainly neat, but the actual means to combat them are uninteresting. The prevalent method was just to squirt them with goop and then hit them with the wrench, and it worked pretty well on the bigger enemies too. But at worst so far, there's only maybe four mimics around at a time. The main challenge for me lay in actually being able to see anything when I was engaged with enemies.
>>
Yeah it's an alright game, nothing really to shit post about. I liked the helicopter intro.

>>
>>376149620
Heavy lifting comes with heavy throwing. It's kind of a bitch to actually throw a big box in a cramped area, but the damage to enemies is ridiculous, for no stamina/psi/ammo.

You get a little leeway on the physics, too- in my experience, if the object ricochets right after you throw it and hits you, it won't damage you. If you throw it straight up and wait for it to fall on you, though, good luck.

I played 3 hours straight, I never do this. It really pulled me in.

It allows me to explore at my own pace, be creative with powers (more than Bioshock ever did) and use the environment which is very interactive. I love it.

I don't get the criticism for the game so far. Yes, we didn't get Prey 2, but this game and developers has nothing to do with it. They were making System Shock spiritual sequel and for some reason Bethesda said to use Prey name AFTER Prey 2 was actually cancelled.

Other complaints are just from retarded people. If you explore you find more than enough crafting material to make ammo, and the smaller mimics have tons of give aways (music/sound cue, they have a visual glow, weird item placement) plus you get a scanner later.

I'm still pissed off about there being a balcony and door leading out concealing the wall you aren't supposed to know is there at the beginning.

THERE SHOULD NOT BE A DOOR OR BALCONY THERE, IT MAKES NO SENSE

There is one, and only one reason your apartment has a balcony: Playtesters were too retarded to hit the window, and despite creating other ways out of the room, a bunch of them got stuck in there for 45 minutes, got mad and gave up, so they gave the darksydephil's of the world what they wanted, and put an obvious door on the illusionary wall.
>>
>>376178548
A semiauto rifle, bolt driver, or battle rifle would be nice. The q-beam does no damage until the total combustion and then what you kill drops NO loot. The corpse is vaporized.
>>
Why can't a balcony be there? He's only reliving the same day over and over, so as far as Morgan is concerned he just wakes up one day and his door is jammed.

Maybe its replicating his real life apartment from before the experiments. Maybe it's a texture thing, doesn't matter if they can project anything onto those see-through walls if they still feel like glass. He would be touching a brick wall and feeling slick glass.

And it would be weird if he lived on a penthouse apt on the 49th floor and didn't have a balcony.

I don't see any real problem with it.

This is a meme. There's Harvey Smith, who was a playtester at LG, and then a couple of voice actors, and a writer, and to my knowledge that's it. Maybe I'm missing one or two but I doubt the total is a significant number out of the total working at Arkane.
Even if every single employee at Arkane used to work at Looking Glass, that wouldn't excuse anything because an important part of LGS's greatness was that they tried new things. Arkane doesn't.
>>

Oh hell yes this. Oh man do I hope Arkane can convince Bethesda to give them some money to put some patches.

The setting seems interesting, but the game is unplayable on consoles due to extreme input delay and terrible fov. Good luck fighting more than one mimic on Hard without getting hit because you move like a retard while the enemy is small and agile. Waiting for a patch and sale, thank god the opening hours demo was released.
>>
I watched the first hour, and here's my understanding of the story so far, PLEASE tell me there's something more to it than this.

You're very obviously the cause of the mimics and other ayy lmao shit running around, and your brother put you in a permanent simulation to stop you fucking shit up because he didn't want to kill you or something, and he felt responsible because he was the one who gave you the retarded mods in the first place. The entire story is just going to end with the "reveal" that you're inadvertently the bad guy.

I really hope it isn't this obvious, I mean this is sub-Bioshock 2 level writing.

Arkane has always made superficial recreations of Looking Glass games, this is competing for Dishonored for the most blatant in rehashing and incompetent design.

I dunno I think Arkane does push the boundaries of Game Design. Dishonored magic system with it's combination possibilities is very damn cool.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWSIHC2lvn4

And Prey feels fucking huge with so many sidequests. I haven't completed it yet but it already kinda feels overwhelming.

What I think Arkane lacks is just well execution. Looking Glass Studios weren't just way ahead of their time their games were also just very polished. The 3D Sound for Thief and System Shock 2 still feels like some of the best in the whole medium.
>>
>>376184901

Morgan Yu died in the Talos I incident several years ago. The protagonist is a Phantom that has taken his form (one of dozens) and is currently going through a simulation being run by four AI personality constructs (like January, December) and his living brother Alex.

The purpose of these experiments is to teach the Typhon hivemind about empathy by putting it in the same situations that Morgan was in. If the test succeeds then they might save humanity. If it fails then they kill the Phantom and try again. Apparently they have been doing this for a very long time.

>>376191185
Wow, what a great creative decision to make your game look like 64 bit ass.
>>
>>376191313
>If the developers wanted dishonored to have no powers the powers wouldn't be in the game
It's called mass appeal, retard. Which is why they give you options.

>I'm not going to castrate myself out of a huge chunk of the game because of some arbitrarily personal challenge
>I hate this aspect of the game, but I REFUSE not to use it even though that decision was clearly considered by the developers and rewards you with a deeper immersion and challenge.

>We'll give you broken tools for no reason, but the game is more fun without them
So take the option not to use powers in the beginning, faggot.
>>
>>376191317
Hence, why it's gone now. there were plenty of people telling them that, as well as complaining about unity engine. That's one benefit of kickstarter and (somewhat) open development, fans will tell you what to definitely not do and filter out bad ideas early on.

It's a solid doom/quake clone. Bit easy though, literally impossible to die.
>>
>>376191458
>Mass appeal

So it's good design to literally break your own game, make it piss easy so mental retards can play it, but hey let's add in an option to play it "right"

But of course, since so much of the dev time was spent on powers on such, you'll miss you on a ton of the game in the process

I guess dark souls should add objective markers and a mini map
And let's add that to thief as well, along with xray vision

Which is okay, because mass appeal and choice

Who gives a fuck if games can sell well and be better without trying to appease everyone, which no game can do
>>
>>376165904
Where are people finding all the challenge? I've played it for 5 hours on Hard and it hasn't been overly difficult. Ammo isn't scarce at all once you can use the recycler and what not. Not to mention, this game is meant to be played using the physics rather than just shot gunning your way through locations. I glob the shit out of everything and bang on it with a wrench until it's dead.
>>
>>376191784
>But of course, since so much of the dev time was spent on powers on such, you'll miss you on a ton of the game in the process
Like what, the powers you keep saying you don't want to use? Your logic is so contradictory it's baffling.
>>
>>376166868
I enjoy the zero gravity areas, I assume you're using a controller
>>
>>376191878
After switching from Hard to Nightmare it does get a bit more tense but the greater mimics are honestly the worst threat.
>>
>>376191896
I never said I don't want to use them
I said they're bad design and make the game a snooze fest

Bad job moving the goal post pal

Well, okay then.
>>
>>376191989
PS4fag here and the Zero G controls are fine.
>>
>>376192063
No, you said you didn't want avoid using the powers because that's not how the game was designed.

I explained to you that it was most certainly created with not using any powers in mind, gives you the option to reject them, and only adds to the quality of the spectacular level design.

Then you scream out the name of a logical fallacy you don't understand.

kys retard
>>
>>376192167
Look at the image I replied to then look at my post. People on Steam are apparently complaining that this game is too difficult on the easiest difficulty and for things that really aren't a problem if you understand the game. I likely will try it again on Nightmare, but feel this is the right difficulty for me at the moment.

How do you get inside in this area in Hardware lab?
My repair skill isn't hard enough to repair the panel

The basic power is literally zipping around the map like a brainless retard

Sure makes you take in the level design

Oh, you're trolling. Nobody can actually be this retarded. Hahaha fuck. Anon you got like 4 (You)'s from me, nice!
>>

I am like 99.99% sure that you are only suppose to get there via repairing the panel. Not everything has multiple solutions.
>>
>>376192483>>376192559>>376192820
Nvm, turn out there is a small opening near the glass where you can use mimic matter to go inside.
>>
>>376192768
But we both agree that the level design is better without powers
Which means that you actually agree with me and are just being a dick for some reason
>>

Nah, or your sense of superiority got the better of you and you had to fulfill your cynical and intelligent personality that can see through all the bullshit that none of these stupid fucks on the internet can. They don't know why they like what they like, they're just following the herd, right?

Pretty accurate considering half of neogaf comes here to shitpost and complain about childrens entertainment. They cant say any naughty words on neofag so they come here to vent their adolescent frustration.

Rank your neuromods.

>1: Combat focus
Slow-motion and grant you free hits.
>2: Psychoshock
Weakness to 80% of the enemies.
>3: Mimic matters
Good for exploration, allows you to bypass areas where leverage is required.

>More people in civ5 than civ6

lol

>Football manager and Euro truck simulator is so high

Goddammit

>Garry's mod is still high

Goddammit. What is there to do in garry's mod beyond RP?
>>
>>376193438
The areas sizes aren't exactly huge, but there's so much to explore and the entire map is properly connectable so you can go back anywhere in the game at any point and it's worth doing because of the abilities you'd likely have in late game that can unlock doors or solve puzzles in earlier sequences. (I use puzzle very lightly)
>>
>>376193686
I always go for hacking, since panting and sweating in the corridors, etc.

>>
>>376193438
There's not that many. Like more than half the areas are literally just a corridor(Deep Strorage, Guts, Arboretum, Bridge, Exterior, etc).

The game is overhyped trash.
>>
>>376193686
>allows you to bypass areas where leverage is required.
If you have leverage 1 you can just toss leverage 1 items at anything to get them to move. By throwing repeatedly the physics will make the larger object move or topple over so you can get through.
>>
Let's talk about the story a bit

What did you take away from it?

Any details you noticed?
>>
>>376193869
>Deep storage
>Arboretum
>Bridge
>exterior

>linear

What. Those aren't linear. The only truly linear area in this game is GUTS and even that area has its secrets.
>>
>>376165904
Shit, this makes me think I should Buy and play the game now before they patch and babbyfy it for everyone.
>>
What are the comfiest areas? For me it's Lobby, Arboretum, Crew Quarters, and Shuttle Bay.
>>
Complete the quest Psychic water if you have it.
It makes drinking from water fountain restore Psi and essentially make the game easy mode.
>>
>>376194074
>tfw you'll never have a comfy job handling zero g maintenance for deep storage and walk around the Arboretum on your breaks gazing at the stars.
>>
>>376194074
Yu's office is, by far, my favorite room in the game. Just turning on that speaker and making a bunch of ammo and health packs is great.
>>
>>376194074

Nice.

That's false, q-beamed typhons drop loot

If you were an employee which of the areas would like you like to work on?

I'd probably pick Arboretum or Life Support.
>>
>>376194486
The games install to the same place but apparently can still be played fine as no files are overwritten and their file structures are different enough.

Jet around in Zero G and work on servers.
>>
>>376180304
It's expicitly stated that this isn't a military station. Yes, there are security guards using shotguns and pistols but they're not soldiers with machine guns and rocket launchers.
>>
>>376184691
Shoot objects you think might be mimics

Greater mimics aren't detected by the psychoscope chip
>>
>>376194680
They even complain about the "pop guns" they were issued.
>>376194708
You can find another chip that'll detect greater mimics.
>>

>>
>>376194708
In the description in game it says you can also use it to push the "unlock" door buttons remotely.
>>
>>376194939
There's a lot of things like that you can do, for once shit isn't breaking as you arrive its already broken and the game progresses you around.
>>
>>376194946
You can, but I don't think there's any button in the game you can shoot with a crossbow through a that I wouldn't have just mimic'd a coffee cup to get through the gap
>>
>>376195330
Well, if you're doing a no-typhon run it's useful for that.
>>
>>376195402
Nerf darts also don't cost Psi and they are recoverable.
>>
>>376194486
You can buy it on G2A, goy.
>>
>>376150709
did they fix the loud ass combat music? that shit was overbearing.

and hows the aiming? does it still feel floaty? I can't describe it but the aim felt like it was almost dippng under 30 fps with how it'd start drifting off if you held the stick down too long
>>
>>376195868
Sometimes its still really loud but I just turned it down a bit and feels fine.
The aiming is still kind of weird, I should play with the sensitivity more but its "bearable". Apparently we might see some patches for controller input lag/deadzones that should help with the game feeling really weird to control. Having too much fun to let it stop me honestly.
>>
You can do a ton of side missions

Do they effect the ending in some way?

Or is it A or B choice at the end
>>
>>376196349

The ending has people mention what you did or didn't do.
