When I hacked the PSP, I stopped playing PSP games. When I hacked the Wii, I stopped playing Wii games. Backlogs are already bad enough at getting me to not play games. It wasn't as much of a problem back in my youth when there were less games to play, better people to play them with, and no way to keep track of completion besides a save file that you can't easily go and look at.

There are too many games unable to be played to make it worth doing. Everything else can be done on the PSP or PC so it isn't even worth it.
The only ones I can see hacking their Vitas are people who want to brag about being able to do so or people who loved the library already but were legitimately poor.

I bought a Vita after falling for some bullshit ads that claimed it could run PS2 games.
I held onto it for ages hoping that a PS2 emulator would come along. Only to find out the Vita doesn't have hardware anywhere near powerful enough to emulate PS2.
All the time I wasted waiting for a PS2 emulator on the Vita could've been spent making a dedicated PS2 emulator out of spare computer parts.

It can't run anything the PSP couldn't already run. The SNES emulator has less slowdown issues with Mode7 but that's it.

Vitas at a hackable firmware are low quantity and the cheapest memory cards are unreasonably pricey. If you can't find one on ebay for $100 just settle for a PSP.
