I thought Fusions was amazing, but I hated that you could only recruit characters if they show up which is rare. Along with the rare chance that they are recruitable in battle.

Would have been fun to see all the fusions, but I didn't want to spend all that time fighting battle after battle just to get the character I wanted. Was fun otherwise.
I ended up just using the starter characters throughout the game. Gotenks, Brapan, Tiencha, I found SSJ3 Goku (GT), and my character fused with SSJ Bardock.

Xenoverse 2 does have a huge roster, but a lot of the characters become impossible to use in later quests/online battles. Most just stick with their created character, a DLC character, or a God/SSJ4 form.

Fact: Infinite World would be a much better game if it wasn't for the shitty unlocking system and how you have to buy everything.

At least in the other Budokai games, once you beat a character, you'd usually unlock them and get the capsule then and there. Once you beat a character in Infinite World, you have to buy them. You also have to buy multiple levels for each skill, ultimate, item, transformations and stats. Not to mention the extra costumes and stages.

The first Budokai was very Tekken-like which I liked a lot, plus I think the cutscenes are possibly the a better presentation of the story than even the anime. That board game shit in 2 and the talking cutouts of 3 were a downgrade, even if I liked the exploring the map mode of 3. I disliked the break modes and those long ass rock- paper-scissors QTE specials they added in the later games

Budokai Tenkaichi 2 probably best captured the feeling of Dragon Ball. It's more refined than the first and not overloaded with shit like the 3rd.

And i'm still baffled by the fact that Ultimate Tenkaichi exists, to the point that it had a character creator and a large budget for recreations of various scenes from the series with brand-new animation, but completely and utterly dropped the ball on gameplay and in-game budget. I know DIMPS had nothing to do with that one, but holy fuck, talk about taking the lazy way out with recycling Raging Blast assets and then turning it into a QTE fest.

I half wonder if Cyber Connect could do Dragon Ball Z justice, since they actually made Naruto fun with the Ultimate Ninja Storm games.
