Fucking terrible plot at the end, if it only would have stayed 999 style, a bit more tame and not so time warpy it would have been ok
>>
just make a new grounded Zero Escape without any of the pseudo-science shit
>>
>>376146745
They actually made things worse.

I thought ZTD was like every Zero Escape game. Starts off confusing, slow, a little boring and eventually gets better. It's less fulfilling than the other ones though, feels a bit empty at the end.

It's good though. Alien shit was fine, it let them get away with stuff like the VLR ending even though Junpei and Akane were dead. And the stuff with Sigma, Diana, and Phi. Like it was the only way they could get through that and I liked those story arches.

The main thing that sucks is that it ends on a cliffhanger with no sequel ever. I'd love a game that shows them trying to stop the terrorist, and showing what happened to the other characters from the first game. Maybe one of them is the terrorist?

It's bad because it's "the last game in the series", it ends on a cliffhanger and has some of the dumbest psuedoscience in the series (literally ayylmao technology). It's decent, but it's definitely a bad conclusion to the series.
>>
Reminder that if this series hadn't bombed in Japan we would have gotten a proper sequel instead of Uchi's personal fuck you to the fanbase.
>>
>>376149648
It'd probably be the biggest twist in each game.
In 999, the literal twist, in VLR the it's the future twist, and in ZTD the I was here the whole time twist.
>>
>>376149236
I know you are being snarky about 999 and VLR, but here is the thing... ZTD was supposed to bring it all together. The reason the entire series makes little sense is because of how nonsensical the "wrap-up" game was. I'm glad we have ZTD over nothing, yet it is obvious just how churned out it was.

What I mean was the ending in ZTD that leads to the timeline from VLR has the red/Carlos team being executed. The reason Junpei and Akane are in VLR though is because of the transporter. They transported to that timeline from another timeline.

It stings less if you got to play them after all three were released. VLR set up so much stuff that ZTD just did not deliver on and when it did, it did it poorly. Also add the fact that it has an extremely unsatisfying ending.

There are weird, bad things about the whole thing and then it really shits the bed at the end. Way too much "ridiculous fantastical thing that exists solely to make an insane paradox possible", particularly that fucking alien machine that not only does crazy shit but also does it in exactly the right way to create some huge plot twists.

I like all three of the games but sadly 999 is probably still the best of them story-wise because it has just enough crazy shit without needing to cheat to get there.
>>
>>376141850
I enjoyed it but it's incredibly flawed and it's not the conclusion that everyone thought it would be. It's easy to get mad when you consider the pre-release hype a lot of fans had, and the fact that it's almost certainly the last game in the series.

Yeah honestly 999 is the best one. It might have less convoluted plot twists but the plot being simpler doesn't make it necessarily worse, also the true ending is at least satisfying enough, way more than its two sequels at least.

I liked 999. I'm not a huge fan of convoluted, Japan-ish plot, so I was kind of "heh" at the end, but overall, it was pretty good.

VLR was pants-on retarded, and it's still baffling for me to see people praisings its story. Whether it's the "I WAS OLD ALL ALONG" or the "LET ME GIVE YOU A RANDOM CODE FOR THE BOMB SINCE YOU'LL NEVER BE ABLE TO DEFUSE THEM ALL LOL", I feel like the game is actually insulting the player and trying to see how retarded it can get before you want to drop it.

ZTD managed to be even worse because the whole jumping around time negates any kind of tension your choices would make. Also, fucking alien spaceships.
And the whole cast going "but if we shift, we are MURDERERS" is pretty rich when you think back about Junpei and Carlos' retarded plan to get the codes by killing themselves in the playroom.

>>376167091
The whole trilogy was about getting everyone to actively know how to shift to parallel timelines instead of just chancing upon it. In doing so, they have an infinite number of opportunities to find the cause of and stop the apocalypse. Because Delta is unable to Shift himself, he could only operate based on his ability to read minds.

999 was like a rough experiment based on Delta's limited knowledge at the time to stimulate Shifting powers, but Akane's awakened Shifting power crossing between time also led into the proper timeline to keep Akane alive and set up ZTD. It could stand on its own, but that's because it didn't reveal the overarching plot.

VLR was an important "failed" timeline set up by "Carlos saving the world" in ZTD. The events in VLR develop Sigma and Phi, as well as serve to loop back into ZTD. Despite the events of VLR technically being written out of existence thanks to time travel (a good thing since it means the virus apocalypse timelines cease to propagate), the memories that Sigma retains from it are critical.

The things that happen during ZTD affect events both in future timelines and past timelines, and it all comes back to ZTD.
Nobody dies.
The cast of 999 all survive (besides that one asshole).
The single VLR timeline is isolated, and the memories remain in the morphogenetic field so nobody has to suffer.
The cast of ZTD are ready to stop the apocalypse in one or as many timelines as they see fit. They have infinite time and infinite opportunities.

Sigma and Phi were already known as DCOM participants, and we hear Diana in VLR telling us that she has killed six people. It didn't even make sense back then, considering that the hack confirmed that Junpei would be in the third game immediately after the second game.

It's time travel man, every motherfucker who uses it wants to do a bootstrap paradox but it's a thin line before that get's retarded,
Look at what happened in Steins;Gate 0 for example, time travel makes writers retarded when they use it too much
>>
>>376188858
I'm having a hell of a time avoiding it being retarded in my own writing, dude. It's difficult, especially when your protagonist is intelligent enough to test a minor paradox and see what happens with it/intelligent enough to understand the presence of a causal loop.
>>
>>376188947
Because the problem with time travel is that for it to work properly then it technically has already happened.
The only reason the original Steins;Gate worked was because it made that an integral plot-point.

I mean look at VLR, look at that timeline even without ZTD in the mix, its an absolute clusterfuck if you want a good resolution.

HAHAHAHA HA
>>
>>376189185
>Because the problem with time travel is that for it to work properly then it technically has already happened
This is not inherently true. You can have a situation where timelines branch off or reconstruct as a result of time travel - it doesn't have to have already happened. If you're working in a universe that includes causal loops though, yes, definitely.
>>
>>376189272
Yes but then you have to adopt the premise that ZTD does in that bad timelines are actually canon and chances are the main character has actually died.
I'll be honest and say I prefer that idea since the "one timeline only" shit usually comes across as a cop-out but it still means you can't really ever have a happy ending

Also butterfly effect is never really shown correctly, if I went back and spoke to my parents and delayed them fucking for even a second then I've most likely wiped myself from existence.

There's a lot of shit going on in time-travel and you have to accept there are going to be some breaks from reality.
The key thing is the internal logic which between 999 and VLR was already pretty broken

>one timeline only
>main character has the ability to time travel
>main character realizes that events which have occurred in the past were caused by time travel events in the future and therefore allows those future events to happen
>main character does everything possible to make sure that reality doesn't contradict itself, but could theoretically make the decision to break reality by forcibly changing something

Where's the reality break here?

It still blows my mind was the whole plan with Dio was for him to sabotage the project thereby causing it to succeed and that Delta has supposedly planned this for over a century.
God I loved how dumb ZTD was
>>
>>376190176
Nah, I think in VLR Brother was an accomplice. Akane probably just asked Delta to send Dio.

"No."
>>
>>376190097
How the events occurred in the first place.
I mean it comes down to how you implement the time travel, if its a case of if it was going to happen then it has always happened then you can easily work around what those events are and how they happened and what the consequences of said events lead to if they do or do not happen.

Honestly just set the rules for yourself, you don't have to establish them in universe so long as you don't go out your way to break them and people will be able to figure it out unless you make it too complex

A loop can have an entry point

999 is an example of a loop not having an entry point

I mean, it was to be expected. It was at the very least hinted at in VLR's Q&A.
I just wanted them to fuck when they were stuck in that AB Room for 40 minutes.

Also the "natural redhead" retcon of her model in ztd is beyond retarded and looks far uglier.

I had more fun with this than 999

I had more fun hyping and meme-crafting with ZTD, but that was it.
999 was a substantially more enjoyable game.

That was admittedly annoying, but at least it gave us the best version of Morph Sorrow.
