Honestly, I feel like they took the best of the cast from persona 2,3, and 4 and just put them in one place for 5.

The Persona 4 cast managed to feel like friends outside of their social link. Persona 3 has an excuse at being the first modern Persona but 5 doesn't really have that, all of their get togethers ingame either fall flat or are interrupted by plot.

P3 felt like a real group that had real character development in learning to deal with themselves and each other. Even though they may not have been the best of friends, their dynamics were fine and they ultimately grew to be supportive of each other.

P4's cast were actual friends. Yeah they may have only been together because of Yu, but they were shown hanging out and doing group activities and felt like they would actually hang out with each other even if Yu wasn't around.

P5's cast dynamics were really weak with some characters feeling almost pointless. It almost felt like they were Joker's friends instead of each other's.

people say that everyone dicksucks yu, but that's more the case in persona 3 when everyone gets too attached to the MC with barely any interaction between them. persona 4 feels like a united party that develops for their cause, while their side developments are left for the social links. persona 3 was also never funny and tried really hard sometimes. persona 4 was hilarious.

the gameplay is also just far far better. difficulty didn't matter when persona 3's difficulty was atrocious garbage that never felt satisfying.

Actually, the female Phantom Thieves get along great. There's a dedicated scene to Ann and Makoto exchanging numbers and bonding super quickly, and Haru and especially Futaba are warmly and thoroughly welcomed and integrated into the group. There's a lot of scenes that show the girls getting along.

It's the male members that are weird, which is all up to their characters. Morgana and Ryuji are both dicks too often and Yusuke is basically autistic. Of course they're tough to keep together without Joker as the voice of reason.
