A game journalist actually advising against looking at reviews? I'm genuinely impressed.

I'll never understand why some of them think it's totally okay to play the first couple hours of a game and then write their final review.
>>
I'm digging it, just turn off the objective markers. They ruin the game.

Giant Bomb has been doing this for years,so have Gamespot and IGN.
I dont see your point.
>>
>>376136764
And that's why nobody has any respect for any of those sites.

Destructoid has a completion policy and they're much more highly regarded.
>>
I don't trust reviews even if they had a week or a month Advance copy.

Those fuckers don't even finish the games. The IGN reviewer for Sonic Unleashed never made it out of stage 1 and submitted a full review for it.

There was the other guy that shit on the game for not having a proper ending. The dev commented that there is one on any mode outside of easy. The reviewer replied back that he played it on hard. The review was late edited to remove the bit and deleted the comments.

The press isn't filled with critical thinking people. It's just a bunch of fucking video game fans that suck ass at them and want free swag
>>
Who the fuck still trusts ANY reviewers in fucking 2017?
>>
>>376137082
I'd hardly even call them fans. I often get the impression they aren't even in it for video games, they do it to pad their resume and fuck women.
>>
>>376137204
Good question, yet you'll always see Metacritic score threads getting hundreds of posts. I don't know why those aren't dismissed immediately, it's like people have legitimately become stupid enough to start trusting reviewers.

>>
Only reason people are struggling so hard with the mimics is that they don't repair their fucking suit at the start. The higher the percentage, the less damage passes through to your health pool. I noticed this later on when I was rolling around with my suit status at 100% all the time, the mimics barely tickled when they actually hit me, and I didn't have any of the neuromods to increase damage resistance or anything.

You can rush to the end and get an adequate vertical slice of the game, but you're going to get the bad ending, and miss the majority of the content which is the sidequests. There is a LOT of quality sidequest content in the game, which I am appreciating a ton.
>>
>>376136480
>I'll be doing a first impressions post at some point soon, which is about what you can trust at this point: in the meantime, read Paul Tassi's. But remember that first impressions are only a snippet of the experience of playing an entire game. If you're the type that wants all the information before buying, don't make your choice based on those.

What the fuck is this? Well reasoned and considered journalism with disclaimers to give consumers the best chance of making a well informed opinion even to the detriment of the one writing the piece?! Well I never!

>>

Game looks like shit anyways. Super generic fps with dumb skill trees that lock paths for no good reason, no reason to have the Prey name other than to sell, and dumb gameplay idea (SCARY PROP HUNT xD).

>>
>>376146049
Do you really think that a developer goes through the logical chain that naming an entirely unrelated new IP after an existing one would generate sales simply out of the butthurt over using a name of a different game? Everyone knows by this time in the information age that name recognition has no effect on sales, and may have a negative impact due to protest over what is obvious condescending exploitation. In the case of Prey there's literally no reason to use that name. They managed to get a successful franchise off the ground with no problems with Dishonored.
>>
>>376146558
>Everyone knows by this time in the information age that name recognition has no effect on sales

>>
>>376136480
well IGN had a "prey week" so you know they'll be objective
>>
>>376146558
Prey is such a generic name that they don't have to use it out of any connection to the original but instead because they feel it is a good title for the game. Which it is, it's fitting. So it's lucky for them that they own the trademark over a simple fucking word like Prey.
>>
>>376145037
Apparently it's under the objectives tab anon

>>376145425

At least in a JRPG where you grind, it means something when you're dishing out insane damage.

DE's shit at game design because they literally don't have a game design document with Warframe, so they keep adding shit and if you're lucky, it's strong up to matter endgame/non-DEAC otherwise you need specific frames to survive.

It points to the real issue with being a game reviewer: you don't realistically have the time to review all the games that come out since you're covering every game that came out. Not to mention the whole problems with biases towards certain genres.

It's why you DO see them hand free copies to Youtubers. They often, admittedly, do have those biases, but with said bias tends to come a better understanding of the genre's more subtle factors like map design and AI for FPS games. It gives a richer, more accurate review, even if they're also inherently more likely to like the game itself, and thus give the review the publisher wants to get. The smaller time ones don't tend to review so many games they can't spend a real amount of time for an familiarized review.
>>

>>376152458
You've burned out on games probably. Like me, I want to enjoy games but I've seen so many at this point compared to when Bioshock came out that I just feel so detached, like I'm not in the game anymore.
